Ask MeCha: Beard or no beard?→[More:]
Should I grow my beard back for the summer? Typically it is just a winter coat thing.
How hot [°F or C] or hawt [°chicas ripping off my swim trunks] would this be?
I can only speak from some limited personal experience, sciurus, but no way would I have a beard in the summer. I found it warm as soon as the freakishly cold weather abated.
I'm bearded year round and I've never noticed this temperature thing. But then I keep it pretty short.
Basically, here's my beard theory. There are three kinds of men.
1. Men who look weird without a beard. (my father in law)
2. Men who look stupid with a beard. (that RL model in box's second link)
3. Men who can go either way.(Sean Connery)
I'm sure you know, deep in your heart, which sort of person you are.
It's time facial hair made a comeback. We're men goddamn it. Big hairy sweaty men with testosterone and furry faces. Enough of these women trying to emasculate us.
Put on your lumberjack shirt, your dungarees and make like Grizly Adams!
Unless you're a woman in which case facial hair is gross. Ewwww!
I saw a documentary on bearded women once. It was very good. And strange, especially since once of the bearded ladies had a real sexy voice and was a knockout apart from the facial hair.
does it look better-enough than no-beard that it's worth the added inconvenience of sweatiness during the summer? Or do you live somewhere very cold maybe? If so, then do the beard. If not, or if it's close to even, no beard... not worth the discomfort.
I am proudly bearded, and urge you to stay in the ranks of your bearded brethren. For summer I usually keep it trimmed pretty short, heat really isn't much of an issue for me, though the tanning can be if for some reason you decided to shave in the middle of the summer (as I did once of a fundraiser).
Can't comment without pictures. It's impossible to say whether a beard is right for someone or not without visual data. There's nothing intrinsically sexy/not sexy about having one/not having one...it's what it does or doesn't do for your overall look.
Though interestingly, I'm almost always a fan of the middle path...two-day stubble.
