Vinyl pans suck. Butyl is much better, but the best is good old sheet lead, soldered.
Not one plumber in a thousand knows how to select or set a pan's safety drain properly. I finally got so that I would walk off a job if the pan and drain were screwed up. Recipe for disaster.
Plumbers are animals. Almost as bad as sheetrockers.

Warbaby: I hear you about the lead pan. I took one out of my shower recently, when I remodeled, and that sucker was Real. Unfortunately, getting a replacement was too hard, so I used vinyl.
