chatter about topics that may not belong on MetaFilter. Questions? Check the FAQ. Please note: This is important.

My neighbor moved his/her router and now I can't get pirated WiFi and be on MetaChat when I'm at home. Hold me.
Dude, get a pringles can and some washers. You're gonna need a pigtail and a place to stick it, though. You'll be able to get WiFi signals up places you've never even dreamed of.
(Yes, you may take a shower and scrub furiously after reading that.)
Yeah, I help out in my neighborhoods WiFi mesh effort and have tinkered with the pringle can receiver. I'd have to put it outside though, and it wouldn't last long what with all the wind offa Lake Erie.
Maybe your neighbor moved it closer to my mother's house. I'm back in Cleveland for the holidays, and I was overjoyed to see that someone'd left their network ["linksys", of course] open nearby. No more shittastic AOL dialup for me! [Less time spent at one of the nearby Arabicas reading MeFi on my laptop, too.]
I'm currently surfing using a router called "MysteryMachine" because Windows XP doesn't like the 128-bit encryption on my host's router. I'm now wondering if the owner of the machine has a VW bus and friends named Shaggy and Scooby.
