18 December 2005

Natural Radio goes on air at 7PM EST.[More:]

Tonight's format will be "Featured Artists." We'll focus on songs featuring guest performances, then we'll move on to side projects, supergroups, and other collaborations. See if you can guess who's who!

Our sponsor tonight is matildaben. Mm-mmm! Good to the last drop.
Preshow's on now. Christmas-y music. Listen at your own risk.

We are go! Please enjoy the show!

Yes, indeed. I am the one, the Natural One, so take it easy. Tonight, we're going on a voyage through sound. Our focus tonight is on musical collaborations. I hope you enjoy it.

Of course, tonight, our sponsor is matildaben co. brand hot dog supplies. Are you tired of hot dogs that come ten to a pack and buns that come 8 to a pack? With matildaben brand franks, it's two buns for every weiner, the way nature intended.

And now, on with tonight's show.

I like this Rustic Overtones track.
posted by agropyron 18 December | 19:20
Good, because I've got more Rustic Overtones later in the set. That's all I'm allowed to say.

cool cool.

So far we've heard from:
Folk Implosion, Lew Barlow of Dinosaur, Jr. and Sebadoh's side project (from the soundtrack to the movie "Kids" IIRC),
Soul Coughing and Weezer,
BT and M. Doughty working together post-SC,
Chemical Brothers featuring one of the Gallagher brothers from Oasis,
Rustic Overtones featuring Funkmaster Flex,
Primus with Tom Waits,
At the Drive-in with Iggy Pop, and
Iggy Pop with Kate Pierson (sen?) from the B-52s.

Rustic Overtones feat. Imogen Heap,
Rush with electric violin provided by Ben Mink, on a sad track about Hemingway,
Goudie featuring Aimee Mann,
Rush with Aimee Mann (gets around, doesn't she?),
Peter Gabriel w/ Kate Bush.

Don't Box Me In!!!
a forgotted favorite!!!
thank you!!!

Now Shatner? I can't get behind that. :(

Jimmy Eat World on two tracks with Rachel Haden of that dog.,
Stan Ridgeway (once of Wall of Voodoo) w/ Stewart Copeland (once of the Police),
William Shatner feat. Henry Rollins,
Fear of Pop (Ben Folds) with Bill Shatner guesting,
Kerry Livgren (of Kansas) with Ronnie James Dio on vocals.

I really like that Stan Ridgeway track, wendell. I hope Shats doesn't scare you off! There's some more classic-type rock impending.
posted by Eideteker 18 December | 20:27
Yeah, but you've played Livgren more often than KIIS plays Britney... and every time I hear the opening synth chords, I think "Animusic" (embedded video).

15 yard penalty for abusive earworming.

And now, a song from my childhood.
posted by matildaben 18 December | 20:38
Fair enough. Like I said before, that song brings back very vivid memories of my father. So yeah, I listen to it a lot. It fits this set, but I don't think it'll be in any of my sets from here on out. Not for awhile.

It's OK, ELP put me back into totally-cool mode.

Gee, are we allowed to like Mike and the Mechanics' "Silent Running" now? (Because I do.) I thought M&tM was pop music's equivalent of Pineapple on Pizza. (Which I also confess to.)
posted by wendell 18 December | 20:51
Some quick shoutouts to those who are listening, including: Edible Energy, Wendell, Lipstick Thespian, and of course matildaben. Matilda, you can expect your totebag in the mail from dodgy in 6-8 weeks. This concludes the pledge drive. Now, how'sa 'bout some more rock?
posted by Eideteker 18 December | 20:53
Silent Running has always been one of my favorite songs. Since I was a militant anarchist even in childhood, the line "Pledge allegiance to the flag; whatever flag they offer," has always held significance for me. It's still among my "most quoted."
posted by Eideteker 18 December | 20:55
(yes, I'm that kid who wouldn't stand up for the "Pledge of Allegiance." Loyalty oath bullshit)
posted by Eideteker 18 December | 20:56
Of course, I'm old enough to remember when "Won't Get Fooled Again" first came out.

Meet the new boss...
Same as the old boss...

Still, M&tM don't get no respect... like the Alan Parsons Project.

And remember I spent some time among the KROQ insiders who were dedicated to the destruction of '70s pretentious rock, and it's replacement by '80s pretentious rock. Too bad I like both.

Unless anyone else is waiting in line, when Eid is done, I will try to debut Radio YHBC for your listening and/or kibitzing pleasure. There may be some sad songs, as I was just eliminated from my own damn league's fantasy football playoffs (Damn Drew Bledsoe and his three interceptions, especially the one in garbage time that turned a win into a loss for me. Damn, damn, damn!)

LEAVE IT!
LEAVE IT?

Damn, Eideteker, that was on the playlist for my own someday-first-MeCha-cast!!!
posted by wendell 18 December | 21:11
Sorry. Though "Pineapple on Pizza" would make a Good Band Name.

yhbc: I'll be done in about an hr (~10:15?)
posted by Eideteker 18 December | 21:20
Sounds good. Radio YHBC will (try to) take the airwaves at 10:30 EST.

Commish - I'm looking forward to it.

Looking forward to Commissionary Radio too...

Eid? Tom Tom Club? YOU STOLE ANOTHER ONE FROM MY LIST. (I gotta get my compy upgraded soon...)
