Radio Dodgy. Blast from the past edition. In fifteen minutes.
Just to explain - in this session I'm going to be playing tunes from the indie clubs I used to go to ten years ago. I'll post lists as we go along...

OK, I don't know if anyone's around but here goes anyone.

I may pop into IRC too.

Damn it. I was a bit late starting due to laptop being a piece of shit. It's running now though.

I just got here... Great timing!

A little late, but I'm here.

Me too. Working/listening.

Yay! Listeners!

Well so far we've had Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Radiohead (with a novelty single called Creep), Inspiral Carpets, Jesus Jones and currently Rage Against The (Washing) Machine with Bullet in the Head.

Nice. I never expected to hear Rage Against the Machine on MetaChat radio. :)

Jesus Jones! So that's what that was!
posted by TrishaLynn 17 December | 16:25
Funnily enough I never thought I'd be voluntarily listening to RATM. When they got played at the aforementioned clubs I used to take the piss (usually by squealing "Fuck you I do what you tell me" in the most annoying american teenage accent I could muster).

I have to say it sounds pretty good to me now.

My goodness.

Blast from the past indeed.

cripes that sounds like tom jones

Oh yeah, no attempts to be cool here - just all the old shit they played in the clubs way back when.

Funnily enough a couple of years ago I went to a club for the birthday of someone I didn't know too well who's about ten years younger than me. The DJs were playing all the same music which was so weird. It actually made me feel a little sad because when I was listening to this stuff it still new, these guys were listening to someone elses past.

Update: So far we've had the Manic Street Preachers, Nirvana, Suede, Cud, Supergrass and currently Pop Will Eat Itself.

Ooh. The Smiths!! I once met a guy who called himself the Latin Morrisey... ^_^

Update: Since then it's been Beck, The Chemical Brothers, Faith No More, Terrorvision, Daisy Chainsaw, Beastie Boys, Blur, and now The Wonder Stuff.

I'm so glad you're playing this. This was such a fun track in that movie.

I'd love to hear your version of an annoying American teenager voice. :P

Please to upload this?

Wow. Are Radio MeCha sets always this long?

Crazy Nirvana/My Blood Valentine mashup!

Please to upload this?

Ick! It's about half a GB (you guys haven't heard all of it yet). I'll see if I can sort out a torrent at some point.

Are Radio MeCha sets always this long?

At one point this was going to be four hours long! Consider this a lucky escape.
posted by dodgygeezer 17 December | 18:52
No, I meant your version of an annoying American teenager voice.

Upload that!

Anyway, thanks for the set. I've been sitting here listening, and eating leftover roasted chicken and potatoes, and playing computer games. A good time was had by me.

Gotta say, nice one. When I get Shoutcast installed, etc., I'm going to have to return the favor someday.

Do you type out the playlist by hand or is there a program that does it for you?
posted by TrishaLynn 17 December | 18:59
Eeep! And you're on again!
posted by TrishaLynn 17 December | 19:11
No, I meant your version of an annoying American teenager voice.

I'm nowhere near drunk enough! It just sounded kinda like Kelly Osbourne so you can imagine...

Do you type out the playlist by hand or is there a program that does it for you?

No, I save the playlist to a file and then use a program* to pull the stuff out I want. I should think there are more user-friendly ways of doing it, I just don't know what those would be.

* usually Awk which isn't worth getting just for this purpose.

Eeep! And you're on again!

Nah, that's not me.
