16 December 2005

There is a slim chance of Radio b in about half an hour. I'm attempting to resolve some technical difficulties on my end. The hangover isn't helping.
Disregard last message. I think I've got worked out. There's still time to remove your soundcard as a precaution, though.

Working?
posted by danostuporstar 16 December | 14:30
And we're off. The first song goes out in memory of the late John Peel.

Let me know if this is working, please.
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 14:31
Well, shit. It ain't working. Stand by.
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 14:35
Got it. Up and running. Yay me!
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 14:40
You are correct, sir.
posted by danostuporstar 16 December | 14:41
I just tuned in. Sweet.
posted by gaspode 16 December | 14:51
Yes, enjoyin' it.
posted by danostuporstar 16 December | 14:52
Yay! Listeners! I would be the happiest boy in the world if this hangover weren't trying to drive my brain out through the front of my skull.

Our story so far:

The Undertones – Teenage Kicks
The Donnas – Gimmie My Radio
The Fastbacks – I Was Stolen
FM Knives – 16 DOA
Sleater-Kinney – Entertain
The Slits – Typical Girls
Desmond Dekker – 007 (Shantytown)
Mulatu Astatke – Yegelle Tezeta
Kinski – The Party Which You Know Will Be Heavy

Now, who's ready for some krautrock?
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 15:12
Can you put that kraut on a hot dog for me?
posted by matildaben 16 December | 15:14
CAN do.

Get it? CAN do? Ha! I fucking slay me.
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 15:17
I like this Kingsbury Manx song. This band is new to me, although I've heard the name around (maybe here on MeCha?).

Enjoying this muchly.

I just thought I'd add, for no reason, really, that this institution has specific account codes set aside for expenses relating to the following:

Geobet rabbits
R & R rabbits
Oligo sythesis cost reduction
Oligo nucleotides
DNA sequencing cost reduction
Maintenance: Atomic absorption
Overhead: Totem distribution
Cats
Gerbils

and

Ubiquity
posted by jokeefe 16 December | 15:32
Ooh, is this one of the new 50 Foot Wave songs? I have to wait till I get home to download those.

Back in the late 80's there was a group in SF with vaguely ACT-UP-ish stickers called UBIQUITOUS - Uppity Bi Queers United In Our Totally Unconventional Sexuality.
posted by matildaben 16 December | 15:34
Yeah, The Fast Rise and Fall of the South is a good album. Their earlier stuff is a little more psych-oriented, which is also good.

jokeefe: Totem distribution?
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 15:34
Yep, just snagged it last night.
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 15:35
Oh come now, jokeefe, doesn't everyone have a G/L code for Ubiquity?
posted by Frisbee Girl 16 December | 15:35
Oh come now, jokeefe, doesn't everyone have a G/L code for Ubiquity?

Can't say about anyone else, but the damn thing pops up everywhere around here.

(Didja see what I did there? Heh.)

I'm going to run down and get a sandwich. Anybody want anything?
posted by jokeefe 16 December | 15:40
Yeah. I'll have my 20s back.

*snickersnortkneeslap*

Hey, grab me an iced tea, if you don't mind, eh? Unsweetened, thanks.
posted by Frisbee Girl 16 December | 15:43
I gotta go walk the dog. You kids play nice while I'm out, OK? (I'm hoping there won't be any glitches in the broadcast. Cross fingers...)

Thin White Rope!!!
posted by matildaben 16 December | 15:56
This is one of those albums I had approx. 10 years ago that got sold in some kind of don't-have-space purge.
posted by matildaben 16 December | 16:00
I'm back. Didja miss me?

matildaben: yeah, I sorta knew Roger, the rhythm guitarist, back in the day; we had some mutual friends. I attende the very first ever Thin White Rope club gig. And that's my Brush With Fame for today.
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 16:09
You got any Green Pajamas? They would follow this Dumptruck song well.

I used to hang out with Joe Sacco occasionally, and he mentioned that he had done some album art for Thin White Rope back in the day.

We're in IRC. Join us.
posted by urbanwhaleshark 16 December | 16:13
I can't. I'm at work.

I would just like you all to know that my XML parsing function worked the first time. This never happens. It must be the radio.
posted by matildaben 16 December | 16:15
OK, we're heading into the home stretch. Recently played:

CAN – Vitamin C
Faust – Jennifer
Kingsbury Manx – 1000 8
Bubble Puppy – Hot Smoke and Sassafras
50 Foot Wave – Vena Cava
PJ Harvey – This Is Love
Nikka Costa – ‘Til I Get To You
The Detroit Cobras – The Real Thing
Reigning Sound - If You Can’t Give Me Everything
The Rotten Apples – Love Career
Ride – Mouse Trap (BBC Version)
Thin White Rope _ Yoo Doo Right
Cheri Knight – Northeast Kingdom
Devin Davis – Canons at the Courthouse
Dumptruck – Back Where I Belong

I've got about another half an hour, and then I've gotta start getting ready for work. Thanks for hangin' in there, everybody.

On preview: Green Pajamas will definitely go on the next show. And IRC scares me. At any rate, I'm not set up for it at the moment & don't wanna start messing with stuff while the show's running.

Kinski and Maktub. You either have spent some time in Seattle, are a KEXP.org listener, or just are extraordinarily good-looking and have excellent taste.
posted by matildaben 16 December | 16:26
Whoa, mb, is maktub still alive and kicking?
posted by Frisbee Girl 16 December | 16:28
1 and 3, actually. I've lived here for...

*counts on fingers*

...eleven years now.
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 16:29
And yes, Maktub are alive and well.
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 16:29
You live in Seattle now? How come you never come and hang out with us?
posted by matildaben 16 December | 16:33
Wow, that makes me feel as though I've never left.

On the other hand, a friend just informed me that the Camlin and the Cloud Room are no longer in existence and, for that, I grieve.
posted by Frisbee Girl 16 December | 16:33
I'm a shy boy. Plus I work the soul-crippling swing shift.

Fris, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Camlin has gone condo.
posted by bmarkey 16 December | 16:34
*weeps bitter, bitter tears*

Word has it, my old building, the Biltmore, did the same. Damn shame.
posted by Frisbee Girl 16 December | 16:36
Yeah, I think so. Damn things are everywhere. Seatown is no longer the place I fell in love with. I still dig living here, but it ain't the same. I blame Paul Allen.

posted by matildaben 16 December | 16:55
Well, it's time to wrap up. I hope you've had some fun. If so (and even if you didn't), throw some coin to dodgygeezer to help offset the costs of running this little playground, won't you?

Here's the end of the playlist:
Medium Medium – Hungry, So Angry
The Meters – Handclapping Song
Ohio Players – Fopp
Maktub – You Can’t Hide
Michael Franti & Spearhead – Bomb The World (Armageddon Version)
MC5 – Over and Over
Jefferson Airplane – Volunteers
Iron & Wine – Woman King
Dave Alvin - Highway 61 Revisited
Marvin Gaye – Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)
Aimee Mann – Calling It Quits
