13 December 2005

Christmas at Chez Fris Orphaned and familially blessed alike, are welcome. Definitely Christmas Eve, possibly Christmas Day, should the mood/desire last that long.[More:]
Who: Me, of course. And you.

You are: in the Mission, in SF, stopping through SF, coming to SF, thinking about SF, on a different planet but observing SF, vaguely aware of the existence of SF, alone, together, bored, excited, fed up, undecided, looking for something laidback, looking for something fun, in the mood for a nice mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, utterly confused. This part is important though: whoever you are, please be lowkey as all members of the House of Holiday Drama will be summarily drop kicked from the back porch.

Time: Mid afternoon, Christmas Eve on - come and go as you please.

Goodies and creature comforts: Food, drink, couches, blankets, pillows, fire, laughter and conversation as long as we see fit. Also a covered back porch for the smokers. And 'nog, how could I forget 'nog?

Price of admission: Your bad self and something to consume (especially handy if you have specific preferences.)

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have specific questions, but the offer remains open. Without enough time to travel , it's easier to stay here and I have a nice place to hang about. I'd love to have anyone over who feels like having a easy, drama free Christmas. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have specific questions.

And, yes, the 'Frismas Tree' will be on display.
That's really sweet of you. Of course I can't be there, but I hope everyone has fun. I tell ya Fris, this little gesture even lifts my spirits!

Oh, and an editor, I'll have an editor on hand. Or perhaps someone will buy me an editor for Christmas.

Sheesh.

On preview: Aww tr33huggr, thanks! All sorts of holiday hugs to ward off those bad ass blues.

Sounds fantastic! If only I were in SF for the holidays...

There's only one place I'd rather be, and that's Auckland ... and that's where I'm going to be.

Thank you for the invitation Fris, if I were anywhere in the same hemisphere I'd come over. Have fun. Say no to drama. Say yes to 'nog.

Why-eee is Portland so far from San Francisco???

It's under a day's drive, Specklet.

12 hours on the road, tops.

Sadly, I am not, nor have I ever been in SF, but I shall be with you in spirit, lingering in the air like a pungent horseradish fart.

Alas, even though you live in my old neighborhood, and it's only a couple hours' plane ride from Seattle, I'm going to be so overwhelmed from parties on the 23rd and the 24th that I'll probably hole up in a Chinese restaurant with my most-loved friend on the 25th, snarf food without speaking, and avoid socialization as much as possible. I'd love to go to a Fris-party some other time, though.

I'll be in the bosom of my family, giving inappropriate presents to my loved ones and sleeping without a 7-train accompaniment. Thanks for the invite, though. Have a great one, and share the joy.

That's all well and good kenko, but I am car-free.
posted by Specklet 13 December | 19:24
Maybe you could bike.

You know, if you started now.
posted by kenko 13 December | 19:40
I can't make it, but I think you're awesome for inviting us, Frisbee Girl.

Frisbee Girl = impressive class act

I'm really sorry I cannot be in SF to enjoy the privilege of your company, F G.

Specklet: what about trains?
posted by matteo 13 December | 19:55
Amtrak would take half of forever, is more or less sold out on the relevant dates, and wouldn't be significantly cheaper than the $250 flight she could get from southwest.

To discourage as many Californians as possible from moving here.

I confess, I grew up in Oakland, CA

Bah, STP is a two day excursion on a bike at most, kenko.

I know. Believe me, I know it.

killdevil,

This page suggests that for someone not accustomed to doing long-distance rides, six hours is a goal one might set for a century. Portland is over 600 miles from San Francisco, and it's not all exactly flat. That would be over 36 hours if you maintained your century pace for the entire duration, which is unrealistic.

I call it four days.

Awww, what a sweet invite. I'd love to show up but it ain't gonna happen.

i shall be in virginia where we have no laws. i will eat turkey and play football. i will buy presents for mom. i will go the bar and get weirded out by all the people who are younger than me who will be there. i will go running every day. i will not crack a textbook. i will read for fun. i will write. i will hopefully make snowmen. i will play with the puppydog.
goodtimes.

and i don't know why, but i am vehemently anti-SF in general. i'm somewhat anti-NYC. i do not know why this is. i'm just a small town boy at heart, i suppose.

I may be there, but no commitments yet, pending travel plans.

I'm on the opposite coast but wish like heck that I could be there. What a sweet invite!
posted by LeeJay 13 December | 22:44
ah darlin' darlin' - I would so be there if I could get there, but alas, I will be on the opposite coast doing my usual: drinking of the whiskey, wrapping of the presents, beating of the children. ;-)

I'd be there, except that I'll be in Chicago hanging out with two dogs. (I will be watching my sister's dog that week. I am sure my dog is very excited about that.)

Haa haa haaaaaaa!

I'm so out of shape that the idea of biking from Portland to SF is about as realistic as me hang gliding there.

Sorry Fris, I'll just have to be there in spirit...

Oooh, there is a small chance I might be down there for New Year's though; might have a gig. More on this later.

Oh for Heaven's sake, it's an open invite, not an exercise in guilting people! Specklet, have a wonderful Christmas, you know I adore you and that you're welcome at Chez Fris 24/7/365. kenko, ease up on the caffeine already, no one needs a broken arm to share Christmas cheer here.

Caffeine?

Oh I'm not feeling guilty, my love. Just amused at the whole bike thing. I forget that none of you have seen my stick legs, just that slightly-fish-eye-lens-view of the Glory that are my breasts, which may lead you to believe I'm more zaftig than I am.

Smooches.
