I can't sleep.→[More:]Are you guys in the holiday spirit at all this year? I'm profoundly un-holiday like lately and don't know if it's the war[s], daily grunge or what. Inquiring minds want to know.
Getting moderately into the holiday spirit. This is my only Christmas in the States for a while (spent the past two in Iceland, likely to spend Xmas '06 in Iceland as well) and I wanted to do it up, but I was unemployed for a while and am still broke... I've got a lovely tree, but there's something less fun about the holidays when you're worried about how to budget in gifts for everyone.
Also: can't sleep. I've got a horrible headcold and there's a nasty ringing in my ear.
No Christmas joy here. This year has been one disaster after another. Half-hearted Cap reform, New Orleans, Kashmir, the tsunami, the Middle East, the increasingly intractable situation in Iraq, the disappointing outcome of Live 8/Gleneagles, 7th July. The few with many and the many few. The list goes on.
Just the other day, I walked past a chiller cabinet packed full of pork joints in the supermarket, and thought how, this Christmas, we'll spend millions stuffing our faces. And so many others won't have a thing.
Anyway, I'm doing a few shifts at the homeless shelter over Christmas, which might perk me up a bit. Or drag me down further.
I'm getting my 3-year old nephew a Chilton's maintenance manual for his parents' car. I'm certain it's just what he wants, and my brother will use it, too.
Never really was into the religio holidays thing. I'm more in warbaby's camp - eating season. This year hasn't been so nice to me so I'm not quite as motivated to organize get-togathers and think of new things to cook, but I'm eating other people's food.
i am very pro-holidays. i like the christmas. i like the kwanzaa. i like chanukah. new years is meh but whatevs.
when you are still a student at 25, these things become important.
