Wedding Present or Cinerama?→[More:]Yeah, I'm procrastinating a lot today.
Yeah, that link is it. The Wedding Present and Cinerama are both bands fronted by David Gedge. Some people prefer one, some the other. I figured everyone hear had heard them. Sorry.
My upload speed here sucks, so I can't give examples. I'm so unprepared.
Cinerama is more lush and swoopy, while Wedding Present is jangly and noisy. I like them both, but I tihnk Cinerama is sexier and fits Gedge's voice better.
dame, have you heard Take Fountain? it sorta splits the difference between the two bands - it's got some of the jangle of WP and some of the spaghetti western feel of Cinerama.
The only album I've heard from either band was Take Fountain and I liked it. Unfortunately I've only listened to it once or twice so I don't have more than a general opinion.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I prefer my Wedding Present all hyper-caffeinated and jangled. Then again Gedge is, um, around my age, so maybe he's just slowing down a bit.
Don’t sweat it, Specklet. They’re not terribly well-known here in the US. Gedge specializes in tales of obsessive yet thwarted love. Here’s “I’m Not Always So Stupid”, another cut from George Best, the album I’d recommend if you feel like investigating The Wedding Present further (although the albums hellbient mentions are quite good too).
Cinerama's indeed sexy, and great background for a date. But if date becomes your sweetie, and if said sweetie betrays you in such a way that merely remembering it is like watching your own open heart surgery, The Wedding Present is what you need. Seamonsters, especially -- to me, one of the ultimate heartbroken records.
My favorite song from Seamonsters: Dalliance. In a similiar vein, my favorite song from Watusi: Spangle.
man, i still haven't heard George Best. Everytime I went to by it, it was like $30. It's long since been forgotten.
Anyway, I signed off after Watusi, but this review of the new Wedding Present album claims there's virtually no distinction between the two bands anymore.
