Not british, but at least where and when I was growing up it did have connotations of anal sex (not necessarily gay though). But you could still use it (rarely) for a PIV shag.

See, I learned something here. Roger is primarily a proper name of English and French usage which means "famous with the spear" from the Germanic elements hrod/"fame" and ger/"spear."
