Neato. I wonder if some hip-hop trivia would draw the people in. Hmm. Okay, this song, 'Stress,' is by Organized Konfusion. Who are the members of the group?

Organized Konfusion = Pharoah something and other and some other dude. Can't remember...

P: Hey Google. Members of Organized Konfusion?
G: Pharaoh Monch & Prince Poetry.
P: Thanks Google, you never let me down.
G: What about that time you were looking for that fucked up porn.
P: Oh yeah, fuck you Google. I can't belive you let me down. I had a major jones that night.
G: Well, I suggest you take a look at this.
P: Whoa dude and/or lady, you're messed up. I can't go for that. Later.

I think rap's probably one of the more disliked genres of popular music, right up there with country.

(I just played three songs produced by Marley Marl. 'Symphony' and 'Symphony Vol. II,' both Juice Crew posse cuts, and 'Symphony 2000,' which appeared on an EPMD album is a lot like Godfather III, except with Kool G. Rap in the Sofia Coppola role. Then, the Beastie Boys' 'Dis Yourself in '89 (Just Do It),' and, now, 'Fuck a Perm,' by The Coup.)

Sweet. I was coming here to do the same. You got better hiphop knowledge than I fo'sho, though. How bout something from Skull and Bones?

Ah man. Jean just told me to not download her record. And I was all excited about doing just that. Oh well.
posted by panoptican 28 November | 20:43
Well, fuck. I can't manage to keep a stream for longer than a minute.

How about a rather obscure Cypress Hill collaboration? They did 'Ninth Symphony' with Call o' Da Wild on the Gravesend soundtrack.

Before that was Pharaohe Monch rhyming on a SA-RA Creative Partners beat, by the way. The song's called 'Fish Fillet.'

I was listening but my internets have gone crazy. Crap.
posted by selfnoise 28 November | 20:49
sciurus, you doing p2p right now? I always have trouble keeping the stream when I got something like that open. Otherwise, try using Windows Media Player as crappy as the program is. It does a good job sticking with Shoutcast streams for whatever reason.

That was J. Rawls featuring J-Live, a song called 'Great Live Caper.' This is 'Sendin 'Em Back,' by Heather B, who's known among other things for being in the cast during the first season of MTV's The Real World.
posted by box 28 November | 20:56
And this rather anti-Christmas Jurassic 5 song is called 'Buck Santa.'

Nice. I've been hankering for some good rap/hip-hop.

The Tragic Mulatto is Neither - Mike Ladd

Wu-Tang Clan/C.R.E.A.M. - DJ Yoda (from 'How to Cut and Paste, vol. 2' mix)

Hell is Round the Corner - Tricky vs The Gravediggaz
Rap Tyranny - Last Emperor

The stuff you're playing now and the last couple tracks are crazy. It's like when I'm walking around sometimes, at the grocery store or something and someone comes on over the PA and I just randomly here snippets of Wu-Tang even though there is no Wu-Tang snippets. That happens to me a lot. Even when there is no PA.

Also, SELF-LINK ALERT. But I must give some credit to box and this setlist for this: an absurd story I just wrote while listening. Thanks music box.

It's also increasinly massive! I've heard roughly 60% of the stuff you've played so this has been a boon for... I guess my hard drive.
posted by panoptican 28 November | 23:52
After a little snag, that was Reign Supreme, by the Alchemist, and now Making Progress, by Blackalicious. Then Sleep, also by Blackalicious, and I'll be done for the night. I hope I'm not the only one to attempt a Mecha hip-hop show.

Damn, missed it.

Box

That looked really good, sorry I missed it. I would happily do a mecha hip hop (or really rap) show. I am still under the impression that would be difficult since I am on a mac, perhaps I have to do my on research as to a way around (that does not involve a .08 beta release of shoutcast for linux recompiled for BSD and sure as shit going to turn my jammie into a raving foaming no good computer, I went to college I'm even more stupid herb).

In regards to OK, all I can say is:

Yo, it’s the verbal assult weapon with words uncanny
You can fool me but I cannot fuck with rudy gulliani
Press the panic button, shit it’s the schizophranic, can it
I can kill it from the west coast to the atlantic
Nowadays it seems it’s hard to maintain
Can’t take the stress, yes god, I’m going insane
If you can fill my veins say yes
If you can feel the pain say stress
Pharoahe, I possess the skills to bring it to yor chest
With lyrics and manifestation for the entire nation
With his excellency prince standing next to me
And especially extra p on the sp
12 zero zero, I stand tall and be a hero
In times of stress, the pharoahe won’t fess

Someday, I'll make a list of rap songs with references to NYC mayors. Off the top of my head I can think of Koch, Dinkins and Giuliani references, and I feel sure there's a Bloomberg one.
