Well I come from a documentary film making family and even though those docs were always made in a formal and fairly rigid verite way, there was plenty of manipulation, fancy editing and leading questions used to get the footage needed. So I can only imagine what goes on when all those self-imposed constraints are lifted and there is actually an expectation that the show will make money.
