It sounds like Bach played by a computer (which is almost redundant). Are using a weighted, pressure sensitive keyboard/midi controller? You might want to invest in one. *steals enter key back from loquacious*
The man who could put the most emotion in the ivories was, in my opinion, Thelonius Monk. You might want to give him a listen for inspiration.
It's all about expression. You got to say something.
It's fruityloops, mr t, and yes, it is very much like Bach played by computer. I composed it this afternoon for guitar, but I haven't learned it well enough to record.
no crit from me. I like it, it sounds like the music that would play after I saved a princess or something. I like the length too, a cd full of short, trippy little pieces in this vein would be cool.
Listening again, not feeling it. It would help if you let us know where you are coming from i.e. new to playing, taken lessons, (are you using this as a focus group for a jingle) etc.
Aside from the technical problems, that it's a rough composition, there is no tension and no resolution. Qualities that are the hallmarks of elevator music (and video game backgrounds).
But you asked for it, I think you could make something great from this if you put the work into it.
Heh. Usually I'm the dick, bein' all like "YOUR MUSIC SUCKS!" Here, I'm gonna be the first one that says that I like it.
What it sounds like is Kraftwerk's Kometenmelodie. As such, the backing track isn't coming through (assuming that's not just random soundcard noise behind it). I'd recommend that you keep it on the computer, and toss an oscillator drone behind it, one of those ones that goes "woooooooow" (I know how to make it with an oscillator, but I know there are keyboard effects to do the same thing. I hope I'm being clear). I like the simplicity and the cleanliness of it, and would use the melody the way that Squarpusher does on his A Journey to Reedham.
