My first drug experience -- Vicodin, when I had my wisdom teeth out -- was accompanied by this advice from my older brother: "Watch Willy Wonka, you'll never be the same."
I followed his instructions, but couldn't stay awake. Meh.
It would have to be The Wall. There is no way on [insert deity of choice]'s earth that movie was conceived without the help of copious quantities of drugs, so it seems only fair to watch it that way. Not that I have, but I imagine it would be even better that way.
My memories are that, if you take enough "medicine" it doesn't matter what you watch. I seem to remember finding the TV news incredibly insightful when coupled with Peter Frampton at high volume.
I was going to post this exact question for MY aunt a few days ago, and decided to hold off because she likes just about anything that's on when she's had her medication.
But I say: Aguirre, the Wrath of God, and Kill Bill Vol 1.
I used to take those glaucoma meds, but I took enough where I don't have to anymore. ;-) That and the paranoia. But, meanwhile, in actual answer - the Grateful Dead Movie, especially if you have a VCR that can freeze frames, dude, because then you can look at the animation sequence frame by frame over and over again. Oh wait, that might not have been the glaucoma meds. That might have been the reality meds that came on tiny squares of paper.
I recommended Last Year in Marienbad. Not only is it completely inscrutable, but the narrative is wonderfully poetic. It's also a very beautiful film, always photographic, but always for a purpose, whatever that purpose might be.
Like i said: inscrutable :)
For the fluidity of movement and kickass soundtrack id also recommend Rise.
Second Hand Lions
The Hidden Fortress
Bronco Billy
Murphy's Romance
The Testament of Dr. Mabuse
Now Voyager
The Third Man
Local Hero
Young Frankenstein
House of Angels (Englegaard)
Last movie I saw while, um, medicated was Toy Story. I think. Either that or Army of Darkness. (And now you know why I no longer medicate.) Neither one will, like, blow your mind, but if you like to giggle you could do worse.
I answered the wall in that thread because I distinctly remember getting high and watching it. Actually, I did the same thing with Willy Wonka. Although that was one of my favorite movies before that happened.
I can't believe someone recommended "Memento" in the AskMe thread... When my husband takes his glaucoma medicine, I end up explaining the complex plot subtleties of.... oh, "Friends" or "News Radio", for example.
"Memento" would definitely wrestle a glaucoma sufferer to the ground and stomp on his head.
Now Voyager - every woman's favorite "get out your hanky" movie. These are movies for your aunt, remember? It hardly matters whether she's stoned out of her gourd or not.
I'm really appalled at the concept of having to talk about Big Trouble in Little China over dinner. Though Turkey is appropriate for that dog.
You're going to have to discuss this movie over Thanksgiving dinner with the rest of the family, so why not talk about good movies?
*ponders stoned aunts with munchies at Thanksgiving*
Uncle glendinning is correct, the answer is Altered States for 450 points and the lead. If any of you said Darvon, you were close, but sorry, the judges were looking for a movie, not its perfect drug accompaniment.
