Help me decide what to do today.. Mr. taz is out of town, I made lentil soup yesterday, so I won't need to do any cooking, and I'm half inclined to be productive, and half inclined to be a slug. Here are the exciting options:[More:]

→ Work on a website I'm being paid for (I'm not behind schedule).

→ Finish up a work-nice skin for mecha (nearly ready)

→ Finally get down on my hands and knees on my living room hardwood floor and attempt (again) to get up the inexplicably goopy, fiendishly recalcitrant little black globs of indeterminate (I suspect extraterrestrial) material that came flying out of the A.C. when we turned it on this summer and that have permanently melded themselves to the floor. (Yes, I do realize summer is long over, and I should have done this three months ago.)

→ Lay on the couch and watch TV.

→ Lay in the bed and read a book.

→ Organize my office, which at this point is making the baby jesus throw up in his mouth a little bit.

→ None of the above. Do this instead: ____________________
weather?
Go for a walk. Nibble nice food. Come back home and dabble at the rest. Vino.

Hmmm. Weather is etsi-ketsi (so-so). Not cold or rainy, yet not particularly exhilarating - kind of semi-cloudy hazy. Still... fresh air (more or less). There's a concept I hadn't considered. Hmm.

you're gonna think I'm a right bore but organizing the office and taking care of that alien goo are things that will delete stress from your day sometime in the future when you are very busy working or entertaining guests.....

i should listen to my own advice. my office and house are a right mess, and that is stressful now people keep stopping by, ugh! I even have dead roses in a vase. iiiik!

Organize the office then goof off.

I'm jealous. I have this theology exam tonight and my brain is leaking arcane terminology all over MY floor.

that's gonna leave a stain.

Fuck relaxing, celebrate!

There's something to be said for doing absolutely nothing. I have a hard time slowing down, but occassionally a day of nothing accomplished is like a mini vacation.

If you need a few ideas to get you on the road to doing nothing try the list of things to do when you're bored.

I vote for watching tv, because I'm a television addict.

That's a pretty amusing list, Mr. a-gogo... I'm lucky, though, that I almost never feel bored. The only time I'm really (really!) bored is when I'm trapped in some social situation that I can't really escape, and I will make note of some these suggestions that might help me out in these situations.

Go cruising for kittens.

I'm for doing anything on that list, but doing it with good music on and many glasses of wine!

by the way etsi-ketsi is an adorable phrase!
posted by Mrs.Pants 07 November | 11:54
Oh, I'm so glad you like it. I hope you adopt it! It's really "etsi kai etsi", which is basically "so and so", but the "kai" which means "and" gets slammed right into the next word when the next word begins with a certain kind of vowel sound, and especially when it's a very common phrase like this.

The mouth sound of "etsi-k'etsi" is really satisfying for me, so I always prefer to use it over "so-so" or "Comme ci, comme ça".

Another "kai" thing that I love is "ena k'ena": "one and one". For instance, if my husband and I go to the same bar and always order the same two drinks, eventually all the staff get to know us, we can just order by saying "ena k'ena", one and one. Just like saying "the usual", for two.

From Slack-a-gogo's link:

Pretend all humans will die except for people in room with you
Amusement Potential: 10-20 minutes)
What would you do if this really happened? Would the group stay together, or would there be factions? Who would join what group? Remember, there would only be power for a few days before the plants ran out of fuel or broke. To travel, you would always have to be near cars to siphon gas out of. Best to do with people you know.

I do this. Only it's usually what would happen if we're on a deserted island. Using your cow-orkers and your family as guinea pigs subjects is quite amusing.
