Before The Red Shoes was released I remember rushing to the local record shop and purchasing the single Rubberband Girl - a first taste of what was to come. I popped it in the CD player and listened intently. Hmmm. I played it again. Oh dear, I thought, it's a steaming pile of garbage from top to bottom. Unsurprisingly when the album finally came out it proved to be a self-indulgent yawnfest of epic proportions. So I resigned myself to the unhappy thought that maybe Kate Bush was a spent force and just considered myself satisfied with her previous work.
So you could say I wasn't expecting much from this.
Well, it's not bad at all. I'd say it'd fit in comfortably on The Sensual World which, while far from her best album, is certainly a better direction to be heading than The Red Shoes II.
Thanks for sharing.
And I like how the DJ confuses her with Kim Wilde.
I haven't been into her newer albums, either, but The Dreaming and Hounds of Love earned her my undying respect, no matter what she does (or doesn't) later in life.
Cloudbursting was one of the first videos I ever saw, and part of what introduced me to her music. I think "The Dreaming" is my favorite album of hers by far.
