Salon.com redesigns It's long overdue, and very pretty -- but wow if it isn't slower than Metafilter on Thorazine, at least for the moment.

It just keeps loading and loading and loading, but nothing ever shows up. Can't wait to see it though.

It'll show up eventually. I think they've got a case of the jruns. As a Salon partisan and a subscriber, I'm so glad they didn't go under as predicted a couple years back.

It finaly loaded for me....

Am I the only one who gets the 'flickering flash' where the flash advertizement on the side jumps to a diffrent location on the screen every once in a while?

I get that on the new onion every once in a while, using the latest version of firefox.

also: I find the design ugly and bland. Honestly, I liked their old design better.

That new Salon is an awful lot of plain black text on white. (It needs a bunnyhead.)

It needs a grid. The old design was a little cramped, but it had a strong grid. This one's too loosey-goosey.

They should hire taz. Then their hit-rate would go up.

I'm pretty sure they got rid of that a while ago, bugbread. At the very least, it stopped working for me a month or few ago.

I thought the new onion design was pretty bland (but so was the old one)

The masthead is just UGLY, stuff thrown everywhere, the negative space is all out of wack.

I wonder if the top add was intended to be where the "free | read salon now" link is?

I tried it in photoshop and it looked a lot better...

His article about the redesign is interesting, if you're into that kind of thing. (A 16-column grid!)

Ah, ok, damn. I had to reinstall Firefox a while ago and lost the bookmark, and was trying to type it in from memory, so I wasn't sure if it wasn't working because they got rid of it, or just because I was remembering it wrong.
