What is this tripe? [More:]I go away for a week on a trip, and when I come back I see this goth logo in place of my albino bunny. What gives? Is there any way to get the original bunny background back as an option, and not have to look at this rather unappealing logo?

Or are you trying to cast away the older, not-as-hip-as-thow crowd?

Maybe the the rest of the site design is better somehow, but the new logo sucks. Maybe that hurts artist the artist's feelings, but really, it's third grade work.

I want my albino bunny! You shouldn't mess with a classic.
oh, grow up.

Some people hated the rabbit, some people (although fewer it seems to me) hate the zombie. Good design always irritates someone, and in this case that someone is you.

What I'm trying to say is you'll just have to draw on your many years of experience as a mature adult, and somehow try to live with it.

Nah, geezer. I think I'll let the bastards get me down this time and move on... until the site design changes. I had slipped into being a semi-lurker anyway.

That's a weird reason to leave Doohickie, it's just a logo.

The phrase "spits the dummy" springs to mind.

Actually I liked the real bunny better too.

I appreciate different things, and the new logo is different but soulless.

Of course if it is a zombie that would be the point?

Aw, our first angry flameout. MeCha is growing up so fast!

FWIW, I liked the old look better too.

I too am sort of frightened by the shambling hollow-eyed rabbit zombie. Just for the record.

posted by killdevil 25 September | 10:32
I do, however, prefer the new look in general -- in particular that it forgoes the static bunny in the lower right-hand corner, which I found kinda distracting.
posted by killdevil 25 September | 10:34
I have already expressed my preference for the old bunny, but doohickie, that's too extreme! C'mon, man. I already miss you. You're the rock, the voice of reason, a grown up I can relate to. Don't do it. It's just a bunny.
posted by puddinghead 25 September | 10:45
Playboy has new bunnies all the time. Perhaps it's just the second of many?
posted by Tarrama 25 September | 10:57
I like the new bunny. But I am hipper than thou, too.
posted by dame 25 September | 11:15
I like the new bunny too but honestly, who cares that much? It's not my site - I don't do any of the work on it, I just enjoy it. In my personal code of ethics, I believe that thus it would behoove me to stfu with design complaints. I don't get the mindset of bitching about a lovely shiny wonderful playground where nothing is actually broken (unlike a certain blue playground I could name) just because somebody painted the swingset.
posted by mygothlaundry 25 September | 11:27
Look, if I seem a little unsympathetic it's because Doohickie's post contains two things guaranteed to wind me up. Firstly, no one here is entitled to insult the people who work on this site in their own time and are basically giving you something for nothing. You might not like what you get, but you still don't have a right to be insulting - full stop.

Secondly, I don't like people demanding features on this site. If you want something then just ask politely and you'll get a nice polite, sweet as pie answer. You might even get the feature you wanted, it's been known to happen sometimes.

So there you go - if I seemed a little short then that's why.

am I the only one who dug both the old and the new? to me this is a bit like chaging outer garments for the different seasons,, the old bunny was great, the new bunny is too!

(i particurlarly fancy the getting-darker-blue-as-we-scroll-down thing...)

My only annoyance with both new and old - and shoot I should have said this much earlier, sorry - is that the headline is the same blue always, regardless if it is just words, a link, or a visited link. Would be great if that could become a visited-link darker blue if there is a visited link in it.

posted by caddis 25 September | 11:47
I don't think you were being short at all, dodgygeezer. But I envy Doohickie's life if the only thing he can find to get his panties in a wad about is this site design.

fwiw, I like both the designs
posted by gaspode 25 September | 11:49

Me too--it's fall, so we get a new design. How about changing it each season? We could all submit designs/elements/art and make it a group thing.

Metachat is a nice place with nice people who frequently have amusing/interesting things to say. Changing pictures doesn't change that.

You could put up a picture of a giant pink bunny dong and I'd still like coming here.

Personally, I would prefer a feature that tells me what taz is having for breakfast every day rather than more bunny dongs. Is this possible? Also, more waffle representation would be excellent.

I think Doohickie was joking; it IS easy to not see the (also think it's a golem, with the name inside being "bunny") cartoony logo using adblock, as mentioned above. I just nicked the no-pony pic, mr_crash; thank you, I know just who needs it.

Let me reiterate:

Bunnies.

You're not alone, dabitch, I like both versions as well. And I think we need more squirrels. So there.

Seriously tho', may I submit a suggestion? Skinning the site might be nice. I don't know how much of a pain it is to do. Maybe we could have a design contest? Submit mockups for voting? Something like that?

I won't apologize the artist, though. I don't know art, but I know what I like, and it ain't the new logo. Let's just say my tastes are different, and leave it at that.

All in all, a lovely easy flameout and parachute to safety. =)
posted by reflecked 25 September | 22:50
Man, they don't make flameouts like they used to - nobody got threatened with death or disfigurement, nobody's mother got called names and nobody got called a little camper.

A dissapointing effort, all 'round.

Well, that was kind of funny, I guess... But weird.

A request, though: if you insist on being angry at someone, just be angry at me and leave it at that. I found the art, I asked to use it, and I love it.

The artist is a sweet, generous person. So please to leave him out of the pout.

Just to be clear I think the art is fine, well done even. I just don't think it is quite the image I associate with MetaChat. A little to surreal maybe.
posted by Mitheral 26 September | 09:35
I'm kind of close to Mitheral; I think it is too surreal. But I'll take it further and reiterate what I said earlier- art is a matter of differing tastes, and the whole goth-comic look is most definitely not to my taste.

I'm sure the artist is a great guy and his work is superb and all, but I stand by my original comment: I think it looks like a third-grader did it. This may be exactly the intent of the artist, and that's fine and all, but I just don't like the whole look.

Put in a slightly different context, if the original bunny was classical music and the new bunny head is punk, I'm just saying I prefer classical to punk. It might be very good punk music, but as I pretty much dislike all punk music, I'm not going to like it. Does that make sense?
posted by Doohickie 26 September | 10:26
That makes perfect sense. The whole I-don't-like-it-so-I'm-gonna-insult-people-and-leave part doesn't.

taz, this simple trick would allow users who turn off page styles to hide the logo and still get the link home.

Kind of. I find that I ebb and flow with the various boards I post on. Right now, since I'm still car shopping, I've been hanging out on the automotive boards. But you can only talk cars so much without buying something (which ideally will happen in a week or two), so I've been drifting back here a bit more lately. The low carb diet board I posted to seems to have died, and I think I've talked God to death over on BeliefNet (I've made about 12,000 posts there!), so this and MeFi seem to be my major boards lately.
