Stephen King, dead at 58 [More:]I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Horror/Sci Fi writer Stephen King was found dead in his Maine home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Metafilter community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

I'm so gullible, I had to check google news. Apparently some woman is suing him (I would have linked to a real news article but they were all subscription-only), claiming she was the inspiration for crazy Annie Wilkes in Misery. Why would someone admit to that?

Besides for the $500 million, I mean.

Why do people humiliate themselves on fear factor? Lots of folks will sink to any level for attention.

It is official; Netcraft now confirms: *Stephen King is dying

One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered *Stephen King community when IDC confirmed that *Stephen King market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a mere fraction of 1 percent of all servers. Coming on the heels of a recent Netcraft survey which plainly states that *Stephen King has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. *Stephen King is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by failing dead last [samag.com] in the recent Sys Admin comprehensive networking test.

All major surveys show that *Stephen King has steadily declined in market share. *Stephen King is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If *Stephen King is to survive at all it will be among OS dilettante dabblers. *Stephen King continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, *Stephen King is dead.

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

He was only 58? Wow. I thought he was in his 70s - he looked ancient.

yet another reason people shouldn't lie about their age. just makes people think that must have been a hard twenty five years

He's not dead, he's just sleeping.
