Dylan tip (Bob, that be) [More:]

1) I missed the last CD swap, though I intended to participate.

2) I realize that true Dylan freaks and geeks will already have these.

3) However, some among you may be interested to know that there are currently three good quality mp3s of Blood on the Tracks out-takes here, at the MOISTWORKS blog.

4) I also realize that this does not take the place of an entire mix disc, but you may rest assured that my mix for the next swap will be the Greatest Mix in the History of Hyperbole.

5) Thank you. As you were.
Oh yes, and I was tipped by Alex Ross's weblog, The Rest is Noise.

You've got a great title for a mix right there.

I'm planning to do mix-swaps every month and I'll give the next deadline in the next couple of weeks. I know some people have already started making their mixes (and cover art) for the next round.

As for Bob Dylan, I feel kind of bad that even though I'm a huge music fanatic I just don't seem to be able to get into Dylan at all. I recently bought Blonde on Blonde, I guess I should spend a bit more time with it.

I'm a huge Dylanophile. But I must say, I've never understood the elevation by many people of Blonde on Blonde to the exalted status it seems to hold.
If I were trying to find a way into Dylan I would concentrate on: Highway 61 Revisited, Bringing it All Back Home & Another Side of Bob Dylan +/- Blood on the Tracks +/- a "Best Of" compilation perhaps.

I saw him 5 years ago in a park in Sydney. It was bliss. 20 yards from the stage. I had my work phone with me so my brother, 300km away, got to listen to just about the whole concert. Good times.

Thanks peacay. I'm sure I tried Highway 61 before but my tastes have changed a bit since then so maybe I'll buy a copy when I'm out today. Cheers.

It was the first disc of the 1966 Albert Hall Concert that got me hooked.

Excellent link, thanks. For background, these were the original recordings for Blood on the Tracks: about 3 weeks before the album's release, Bob re-recorded 5 tracks (the other two were Lily Rosemary and If You See Her) removing a lot of the poignancy and intimacy from the originals. These are definitely the superior versions.

Also: dodgygeezer - I've turned on a couple of friends to Bob via the MTV Unplugged album; it's a very accessible format. Dylan purists will lynch me for saying this. Check your email.
