20 August 2023

Weather Hereabouts, the weather has been more intense. It's way warmer and hurricane season is already active. Heck there's even a hurricane nearing California.

What's the weather like where y'all are?
We had a nice 10 day break from heat. Daily highs around 24c and nightly lows around 16c. The nights were great for sleeping. At least for me. Not so much for Nora who huddled up to me like she was in danger of freezing. Temps moved back up today.

We have had a crazy amount of rain this summer and I have to cut the grass every few days. We had tree uprooting storms twice in 6 days.

We've had a lot of rain, and it's been cooler than usual for the last couple of weeks, to the point where I was wearing hoodies and heavy jeans. But the last few days have been lovely, around 75F, no breeze. It won't last though, as the ten-day forecast is showing that it'll cool down and start raining again by the end of the week.

June was lovely, really hot and sunny, but July and August have been disappointing, which is a pity, as our schools break up for summer in the last week of July, and don't go back until the beginning of September. I feel sorry for people who've booked weddings or a modest holiday at a seaside resort which have been ruined by the rain.

Last week we were on vacation in the mountains of North Carolina, and the weather, while wet off and on, was wonderful. Just the right amount of bright sun and nice temperatures (I love warm, 70s weather). On our last night we had a violent thunderstorm that knocked out power to the whole mountain and valley we were staying in!

Home to New Jersey, and it was beautiful..at first. But the last two days have been hot and humid and make me cranky. It's supposed to break tomorrow - I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

This is a day after a storm pic from a school a couple blocks from my house.

I forgot to mention smoke. Several bad days. No fires near me but it seems a large part of the country is burning this year.

Looks like the massive tree spared homes.... that's good.

Yeah, I was wondering about the fires and how that's going.

Lots of flooding in my area last night and now at the other side of the country firenados!

Like Senyar, who's just across the Channel, our summer has been quite rainy.
Most dutch people are a bit relieved. That we're back to old fashioned dutch summers.
Instead of the extreme summer drought we've been having in recent years.
(remember the Elbe 'hunger stones' https://www.lemonde.fr/en/environment/article/2022/08/20/hunger-stones-resurface-across-europe-as-a-warning-from-droughts-past_5994193_114.html )
