To quote Homer Simpson 'Stupid brain!'→[More:]I haven't had a beer in a bar for 4 years? 5 years? Years anyway. But now that that is impossible my brain keeps telling me 'a walk down the street and a cold beer at a bar would be so good right now'.
Let's go back to July 1977... I'm working for legendary wacky radio guy Dick Whittington as a combination Sidekick/Producer/PhoneRangler and we have come up with a gimmick to get us and half the radio station staff on a 72-hour trip to London, England. (It's a LO-O-ONG story) The flight we got free seats on from L.A. to London has a two-hour layover in Bangor, Maine. Most of the party did not leave the airport but my boss/the star of the show did and when they reload the plane for the rest of the trip, he is nowhere to be found. I and the station's Chief Engineer doubleteam the flight attendants to get them to hold the flight a few minutes longer, when he saunters in with the excuse for his tardiness "I just wanted to have a beer in a bar in Bangor". And that has stayed in my mind as the main image for "beer in a bar" for the 43 years since.... sigh.
