What does gasoline cost where you are? Here in Orlando gas is around $2.30 a gallon. And it's expected to get lower. Just curious.
I'm in one of the MOST EXPENSIVE gasoline markets in America. The best price right now is at the Costco at $3.39, while the next lowest price in the City of San Luis is $3.63 and the next gas station closest to the Costco is at $3.99 (other communities in the county: South Bay cities, 10 or more miles away, best is several at $3.55, Atascadero, 20 miles away, best is only one at $3.49)

I am lending my Costco card to all my neighbors for gas runs. Now they all owe me.

Meanwhile, the closest refinery, Philips 66 in Nipomo Mesa, is trying to expand its capacity by making a rail depot where they can receive trainloads of crude, and getting lots of "NOT IN my backyard THE RAILROAD LINE PASSING THROUGH MY TOWN". We've had some incidents with oil around here in the past, and the consensus has long been we'd rather grumble about gasoline prices than have anything go BOOM. (Although the area is politically trending toward stupid conservatism lately.)

I had to look it up as I don't buy gas very often but it looks like it's around $2.75 a gallon here in Pittsburgh.

We get lots of oil coming straight through town here, osf. The rail lines were all laid out in the 19th century so they all go right through the center of the city.

Low price here right now is about $3.19.

It's about £1.20 a litre here, which works out at about $7 a gallon in US prices.

I think I saw the neighborhood place is at $2.19.

Two dollars and eighty-three cents.

Lowest price around here is $3.39 per gallon if you have a Costco card (which I do not)

We're a tourist area, so I think that keeps our price a little higher than surrounding areas.

I think we're at $2.51 at QuikTrip and slightly less at Sam's and Costco. I'm in Atlanta. but it really depends on where you get gas - near my Dad, it was $2.99 the other day.

Gas prices here in Indiana have spiked twice in the past week. We went from $2.25-ish to $3.00+ in one week. The oil companies are blaming an unexpected shutdown at a regional refinery, and prices could go even higher soon. Uh huh.

The price here varies a great deal, allegedly because the pump price is tied to world oil prices. It's remarkable, though, how often the world oil price just happens to increase just before the weekend ...

I filled my car up yesterday at AUD1.24 per litre. That translates to USD0.91 per litre or USD3.44 per US gallon. Depends which fuel you use, of course - that was E10 (10% Ethanol), but premium unleaded is usually about 15c a litre dearer and 'standard' unleaded somewhere in between.

Senyar, I can't even imagine filling a car up at AUD2.54 a litre. That's $190 for a tank of fuel :-(

I had some American friends stay last year and when we passed a petrol station and they saw the price (then around £1.36 a litre) they say "I thought you said gas is expensive in the UK, that's only £1.36 a gallon!"

"No, that's per litre."

"What's a litre?"

"Four cups"

*silence from the back seat*

C$1.30 a litre or US$3.75/US Gallon

It isn't just the price of oil; malfunctions at refineries affect the price too.

7.18 usd per gallon for gasoline here in NL. Diesel is a bit less per gallon.
posted by jouke 16 August | 03:36
Interesting, diesel is always more expensive here.
posted by octothorpe 16 August | 08:27
Diesel has been more expensive here (UK) for a good decade or two, but it's just this past month become cheaper than normal unleaded, because of changes in the wholesale price. Our car is diesel and the price is currently about £1.10/litre, which Google tells me is $6.53/US gallon.

Costs us about £70 (about USD 110) for a full tank, which is down from £80-90 a year or so ago. Honda Accord diesel will do upwards of 650 miles on a full tank, assuming long journeys.

Honda makes diesels? The only diesels you can get here other than big pickup trucks are VWs and Mercedes Benzes.
posted by octothorpe 18 August | 07:08
Yes, as far as I know most of the major manufacturers make diesels. I don't know why they're not so popular in the US.
posted by altolinguistic 18 August | 15:33
They're not popular because they're not available. I'd be interested but I only buy Japanese cars and only German automakers sell diesels in the US.
posted by octothorpe 19 August | 06:47
Or maybe they're not available because they're not popular?
