Friday Question from the Book of Questions Have you ever hated anyone? If so, why and for how long?
I admit I felt this way about George W. Bush, for at least 4 years of his Presidency. I still think he decimated our civil liberties. Jon Stewart helped me to eventually find him more laughable than despicable.
My Spanish 4 teacher junior year of high school. He was an ass who was only teaching because he needed a job while finishing grad school at the local religious university (which added another layer of dislike) and didn't teach us half of what we were suppose to know, which set the entire class up for a difficult Spanish 5. I was over it the next year or so but I really did hate him with all my heart by the end of the school year.
Both my parents, for many years. The shrinks they made me see (never make your teenager see a shrink.) Anybody who rejected me or played with my future.
I really struggled to think of someone that I actually hated but couldn't. Obscure Reference reminded me, though, of the awful experiences I was put through by a few people as a kid. People that bullied me unmercifully just because they could. I don't hate them now, but back then I did. Hated and feared them.
Sadly, yes. I hold grudges. When I have been seriously hurt, then I hate and it's very very rare for me to change my mind. I hated what my former inlaws did to me after my ex passed. They truly back stabbed me and completely cut me off, even though, despite the divorce, they'd been nothing but kind and welcoming. (Money changes people). I hate a woman whom I KNOW stole items from the store I work in and got away with it. There are other hates that come and go, but the hate I hold for my former father-in-law is the strongest, most vicious one I have.
