What made you smile today? I saw a man in a Thomas Dolby tour t-shirt. That made me smile.
At work today (big box home improvement store) I helped a 5/6 y.o. girl find her lost daddy. She was so very upset and so very bravely keeping her tears at bay.

I just wanted to hug her, but of course you cannot do that with some stranger's child.

A deer and her two fauns had been coming by a lot, but I hadn't seen them in quite a while. They came back today, very close to the house, and the babies have gotten so big! But they still have their cute little spots.

I listened to Fine Young Cannibals' first album.

I went to the local pet store. I've been waiting for them to get Indian Ringnecks in. There's this Sulfur Crested Cockatoo mix that's been there since it was a hatchling. When I came in, it started yelling, "Hello! Hello!" It remembered me from previous visits, at least it would seem. When I walked near the open tank that it was in, it jumped up and flapped over to where I stood. So I did the usual. I took off all of my rings, turned my hat around. And I walked up to it.

The bird ran up to me and pressed its head into my chest. Because I know how to scritch a bird. I spent my whole time there preening this lovely baby! It's going thru a molt for the first time. So it has a lot of pin-feathers and many of them are blood feathers. I love, just LOVE preening parrots. So he/she and I kept together the whole time.

Any time I would move away, it would yell, "HELLO! HELLO!" And of course i would have to go back and work her/his head.

I would love to own this honey but I just don't have $1500 to spend.

Splunge, awwwww. I have weird bird issues, mainly because I know that I don't know how to interact with them effectively, but your story made me want to cuddle up with a bird and scritch scritch scritch it.

1500 dollar is a lot of money. I had no idea parrots can be that expensive.

Well, I just smiled at the thought of the Fine Young Cannibals' first album, which I bought in 1987 at a particularly low point in my life.

I saw a dog wearing glasses. He's a little black dog, a poodle/spaniel mix I think, all black. But there's something wrong with his eyes and he's very sensitive to sunlight. So when he goes out he has to wear blue sunglasses. He looks both adorable and utterly cool at the same time.

Oh my god my husband made me grilled cheese just now and it was SO GOOD. Nothing fancy, just good ol' Kraft and soft bread with a nice buttery sear. OH IT WAS GREAT.

Oh, after digging through a dozen boxes of paper and storage crap I found the AR/AP file I was looking for between two phone books. Duh.
"Stella" of the beer variety made me smile somewhat more so later.

Funny story. We went to the pet shop again today. The same bird was there. But it was asleep. So I went to another bird there and picked it up. All of a sudden I hear, Hello! Hello!

It seems like the he heard my voice. He was on the other tank flapping and trying to get my attention. So I went over and spent time scritching my honey.

Just out of curiosity, I asked, what would be the payments on a $1500 bird. The owner says, "I'm not sure why nobody has bought him already. He is the sweetest bird here. Right now I'd call it $1250. And we could do a 48 month plan."

So then my wife says, "Why not buy it right out?"

Long story short, I'm getting a new cockatoo!

And I have the best wife in the fucking world!

I'm so happy you have no idea. I just spent an hour cleaning out a cage and deciding what toys should be in it. And I'm sad that my birdie still has to spend one more night in the pet store. Not, understand, that the pet store is a bad place for it. On the contrary, they are real bird people there. They treat them right. I just want my baby home already.

Yay! Does he have a name yet?

Here's Beaker!

He's only 4 months old. While he can say hello and other words, he still makes baby bird noises. And they usually mean Feed me! I love those little squeaks.

We will bring him home tomorrow. Expect loads of pictures and annoying posts from me. Sorry ahead of time.
