Interesting, because this piece is both right and wrong and sort of fails to clear up the real issue. There is actual 19th century risque scrimshaw, and Stuart Frank has not only seen it but has written about it and has some of it in the collection where he works. It's just this collection that doesn't seem to be real. I find it really weird that they don't quote Frank on this topic, and that they don't seem to have internalized the fact that while their nekkie teeth are not from the peak whaling era, there are many that are.
