Do you find the Dead Sea Scrolls impersonation case interesting? →[More:]I am very intrigued by this case. I have no interest in Biblical studies, I'm just really interested in the character of Raphael Golb. The fact that this guy has a Ph.D. and a J.D., but apparently spent all his time waging war for his dad's theories under the guise of his many, many sock puppets is just really fascinating to me. He strikes me almost as a character from a movie ... perhaps with a Charlie Kaufman script.

Do you find this case interesting? Do you know people like this guy?

I think the Dead Sea Scrolls just inspire this kind of behavior . . . they are truly a phenomenon themselves, in every way.

The person who most reminds me of this guy is George W and his obsession with overthrowing Saddam after his own dad didn't.

I agree - it's like a lot of Biblical or Mayan or ancient archaeology, it attracts cranks and lifers and competitive scholars and it's all a wild little stew.

Following it blow by blow is a little much but I did like reading it when it first hit and would enjoy reading a big summary of it sometime.
