Dr Dre has cornered the market in earbuds/headphones at the moment. I see a lot of people wearing the headphones (or copies of) on the Underground to listen to music or watch stuff on their iPads. They're kind of old-timey-looking with big padded earphones and they come in bright colours. I did see a knock-off copy in the 99p shop the other day but I'm guessing they won't have the sound quality promised with the genuine Dres.

But yeah, the genuine ones are a ridiculous price, even more so in the UK where we have to add on 20% VAT (sales tax).

I've read reviews that say they don't sound as good as a ~$100 pair of Bose TriPorts. I'm on my second pair of these (the first ones met a grisly fate in the washing machine), and absolutely love them. I listen to them every day on the train to and from work.

The greatest problem is that so few mp3 players have DA converters and amplifiers good enough to justify buds costing more than $60 or so.

I have listened to several sets of cans of this make. I am really not that impressed. Perhaps hip hop sounds good through them but an acoustic guitar doesn't.

German speaking kids in the 60's and 70's would use "Mensch" in the same way their anglophone counterparts would with "man" (according to my comparison of the English and German editions of Christiane F; the German version had pics of the kids).

I'm in the market for a new set of in-ear buds, myself, thanks to an unexpected Apple Store gift card I received for Xmas. Anyone know a good resource for reviews on these little things?

My Apple buds are on year two; I don't use them a lot but I'm not seeing anything wear on them yet either. MA-850 G/B; I suppose if I had a modern phone they would be enjoyed more.

My laptop has a "beats audio" logo on it but I don't really notice any difference from my old laptop.

I haven't ordered a pair yet, but I'm fascinated by these $8 headphones from Monocable. I read about them on The Wirecutter, which is a cool website.
