I think the little girl would have been uh, ?smacked or worse? at least once if this was done in the states. I would have yelled back at least, I mean geez; a live zombie/ghost thingy? Kewl!
Silvio Santos, the man behind that abomination of a show, is also the owner of the network that runs said show, SBT. He is beloved by generations of Brazilians as an Ed Sullivan-type purveyor of entertainment and variety for the masses. He is also a creepy asshole. He has been churning out decades of below-grade, pandering, sexist, shitty shitty shitty "entertainment" for almost as long as I have been alive. This is his schtick, and he has become rich as Croesus as a result. What really galls me about this particular prank is that someone at any time could have turned around and reflexively harmed that child out of fear. And no one could say it wasn't in some twisted manner justified. Brazil has really strong child actor protection laws, that this was allowed in the first place is a tribute to the astonishing level of sway Silvio Santos has. Here is a clip to another video where he makes a little girl scream and cry on stage, to the delight of his adoring audience.
I could go on and on about Silvio Santos, SBT, and the state of broadcasting in Brazil, but I will spare you all that diatribe.
Sorry fleacircus, I fell asleep after I wrote that last night. This morning my diatribe is gone. If I work up any bile throughout the day, I will be sure and direct it at Silvio Santos later on :)
Even if someone in the US didn't smack that girl or have a heart attack, I bet the producers would have been sued so fast it would make their heads spin.
