I think dogs are fine going up ladders but don't like coming down them. I remember watching a documentary once where a police dog scampered up an attic ladder to sniff for drugs, and he was then too scared to try to come down and had to be carried, whimpering and looking very foolish and embarrassed. He was a big dog too, a German Shepherd.

I think the moral of the story is never own/keep an animal you can't lift, if you're not willing to throw/push it down the stairs.

I just dropped by to echo Senyar. I prosecuted a commercial burglary case many years ago in which the burglars hid out on a roof as police responded. When police sent a K9 officer and dog up a ladder, the dog froze in terror and had to be carried down. My eyewitness across the street found the whole thing very amusing. So did the jury, when he reoounted it all to them.

Me too. Especially if I had to go head-first like a dog.
