Since it's a disco kind of day on MetaChat, here's Amii Stewart (predicting Janelle Monáe) doing a song that even David Bowie loved: "Knock On Wood."
Oh man this was another marathon mixer.

Quite the disco diva.
I hadn't heard that in a long time. Tx.

And for completeness' sake here's the earliest version: Eddie Flloyd in 1966.

OMG jouke... I never knew there was a version older than this one. Thank you.

Here's Ann Peebles in 1973 with I can't stand the rain.
And here's the 1978 disco remake by Eruption. Produced by Frank Farian.

I was a punk back then, but I still made exceptions for the awesome. Thanks!

More Ann Peebles: I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down. Killer.

I find it hard to talk about Ann Peebles without mentioning "I've Been There Before," to me that "How do I know?" pre-chorus gets me every time, it's just heartbreaking.

And speaking of covers, one of my favorite cover artists of all time, Paul Young, did uptempo justice to Peebles' "...Playhouse..." after his breakout cover of The Nerves' "Come Back and Stay." Of course, the Nerves rank with Ann Peebles as one of the most awesomely covered bands ever, don't you know it.

And of course Blondie had that disco hit, so I'm not exactly spinning off into space here.
