[pdf] Should I respond online on the EPA's behalf? a handy-dandy flowchart that's kinda common sense but also kinda interesting
Except for the consult your manager parts it's a pretty good chart on web posting for anyone.

Heh, the government that I work for has a much simpler approach to the issue of employees representing their agency on social media. No employee is permitted ever, under any circumstance, to represent their agency in any public setting without formal written approval (which will under no circumstances be granted).

Also, they encourage agencies to make use of social media to promote government projects, then block employee access to all social media. Also, we were 'requested' (IYKWIMAITYD) to join Yammer and expected to be all sharing and networky and shit, then they blocked that too.

Despite the seeming pedantic nature of the flow chart, it's actually an excellent approach for a public agency to take. Also, with some minor modifications, an excellent decision tree that plenty of people could use in certain places where people tend to over-think while simultaneously bashing on their keyboard in unalloyed rage.

I like this. We run into this at work all the time, though our leadership is pretty encouraging of us participating authentically on social media as long as we're not seeking to undermine the institution.

Still, I could use a personal version of one of these. OR, what DG said.
