Foster Kitty Story:
My SIL is a kitty fanatic. At one time they had 7 or 9 kitties. When it got to the point that they’d reached Peak Kittyhood and it was determined that NO MORE could become members of the household, she hit upon a wonderful idea: kitten fostering. She worked from home so could be there for needy kittens.
The first batch came and worked out well as they were all healthy and happy. They ended up keeping only one of those kitties, a boy named Slade, who wasn’t terribly adoptable being black and not friendly.
The next batch came without names so she decided she’d name them all by the first letter of the alphabet: “A”. They ended up keeping only one of those kitties: a less than glamorous but oh so sweet marbled calico named Abby.
It was the third batch (the “B’s”) that had problems. Something had happened to Mom kitty well before the babies were ready for weaning. And, they were sick. Medicine, special feeding by droppers, it was all part of the ordeal. One (Brandy) had vision problems with cataracts from early on, another (Bailey) couldn’t eat and breath at the same time. SIL had to do CPR twice on Bailey and eventually paid for expensive surgery for her since it was inevitable that such a bonded kitty couldn’t go to any other home. Thus, Brandy and Bailey became additional members of their household.
THE VOICE OF REASON intervened and deemed that there would be no more foster kitties since it was clearly not a way to have kittens without adding to the household. Abby eventually found a home as a much adored and pampered barn cat. Slade is still with the household and resents being an inside kitty but has become a lovely one-person kitty. The B’s are both in charge of the household and run the place, as being fat and sassy calicos they know the score. Bailey is especially fond of play and even at 9 years old still runs around like a kitten since she “knows” every moment could have been her last.
Ambush is great, but the pure unfiltered kittencam is a great boon to humanity. Seriously. I really needed to see some kitten pouncing today.
Supercool Local Videostore has among its children's films an hour-long video called Nonstop Kittens. Once during a particularly bad stretch of life, I took it home and watched it. Twice.
