Sorry for the terrible picture quality, but this is the biggest nothing I've ever seen. The Continental Divide splits in southern Wyoming, creating a basin of two hundred miles of utter emptiness.

Not bleak, but certainly empty. Bay side and ocean side of Farewell Spit, at the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island.
