Anyone up for some MP3 player shuffle action? You know the drill: MP3 player device of choice on shuffle, first ten songs, post them here. [More:] Here's what I got:

1. the SKIDS - Masquerade (Dumfermline collection) A non lp single from 1979 - featuring a bit of that bagpipe guitar that would be so prominent in Stuart Adamson's next band, Big Country.

2. the DANDY WARHOLS - Solid (Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia 2000) - The further I get from the newness of the Dandy's the more I realize how many of their songs sound the same. Still likable, but often just a variation on another Dandys song.

3. the GRASS ROOTS - Mamacita (Anthology 1965-1975) "She's got a foxy smile, but I better warn ya, she's the straightest lady in the state of California" - they don't write em like that anymore.

4. STAN RIDGWAY - Can't Stop the Show live (the Big Heat 1986) A live bonus cut from Stan's first solo album.

5. MGMT - the Handshake (Oracular Spectacular 2007) MGMT won't have much more time on my hard drive - this is pretty boring.

6. the DILLARDS - the Whole World Round (There is a Time 1963-1970) The Dillards were probably the first bluegrass band I ever heard thanks to their recurring spots as the Darlings on the Andy Griffith Show.

7. SOFT CELL - Soul Inside (Very Best of) Until I looked to see who this was I could have sworn it was Wolfgang Press, which seems silly now since that's obviously Marc Almond signing.

8. PAPAS FRITAS - Lost in a Dream (Buildings and Grounds 2000) Nice easy going pop song from the Massachusetts band.

9. BO DIDDLEY - 500% More Man (the Chess Box) Such a simple riff (which is why it's used so often), but still one of my faves.

10. DUCKWORTH LEWIS METHOD - the Nightwatchman (the Duckworth Lewis Method 2009) If I had to pick a single favorite concept album about cricket, the debut (and only) album from Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy and Thomas Walsh of Pugwash's Duckworth Lewis Method would definitely top the list. I have no clue what they're talking about, but the tunes sure are great.

So, what's on your shuffle?
Sex Pistols - Friggin' in the Riggin
Keletigui Diabate with Habib Koite - Summertime at Bamako
The Police - I Burn for You
Bruce Hornsby - Mandolin Rain
Owen Paul - My Favourite Waste Of Time
Vince Guaraldi Trio - Oh, Good Grief
Division of Planes - Disarray
Dee & The Yeomen - First Train Home
Gorillaz - On Melancholy Hill
Rod Stewart - The Wild Side of Life
The Kinks - Polly (Stereo)

Janis Joplin - Summertime
B52s - Private Idaho
Cracker - Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out
Unrest - Imperial f.f.r.r.
Brian Jonestown Massacre - Feel So Good
REM - Superman
The Kooks - You Don't Love Me oh god on checking the title on youtube I have suddenly realized that the Kooks are children. I mean they are little kids. Good lord.
Pixies - Weird At My School
Billy Bragg & Wilco - Ingrid Bergman Every time I hear this song I think that Arlo Guthrie must have writhed in embarrassment the first time he heard it. Most unabashed song about a movie star crush ever written.
Jesse Malin - Downliner I bought this album for the title. It is, after all, a subject in which I am something of an expert. And I'm still listening to it years later.

1. The Shermans--Crazy World (60s style pop from the early 2000s or thereabout)
2. The 24-Carat Black--Gone The Promises of Yesterday (this is clearly something I uploaded while working at a college radio station and never listened to again--but it's super cool)
3. The Velvet Teen--333 (I loved their earlier stuff but mostly hated this album and don't know why I still have it, this song is terrible)
4. Mos Def--Life in Marvelous Times (I always think of Ford Prefect when I hear Mos Def now)
5. Eric B and Rakim--Follow the Leader (I have hardly any hip-hop so these selections are cracking me up)
6. Des Ark--My Saddle is Waitin' (C'mon Jump On It) (I LOVVVVE this song, this album, this band--one of our great local bands--I've known Aimee for years and she freaking amazes me. I've fast-forwarded through the other 5 but am listening to this one all the way.)
7. M. Ward--Lullaby+Exile (this is a perfectly fine song)
8. Thievery Corporation--Revolution Solution (another perfectly fine song)
9. Magnetic Fields--I Don't Believe You (this is one of only like two Magnetic Fields songs I like--I always say my favorite song of theirs is the Superchunk cover of 100,000 Fireflies. Whcih, to be fair, is one of my all-time favorite songs)
10. Yo La Tengo--All Your Secrets (great song)
