22 March 2012

Nearly the weekend 3-point update [More:]
1. I am typing this from the guest room at gaspode's. I'm in New York for a week, to see all my NY friends and eat good food.

2. The flight over was not without drama, as the man sitting across the aisle kicked off when the flight attendants told him he wasn't allowed to open and drink his own booze in flight. Then they refused to serve him any more airline booze. At one stage the purser said they were considering landing in Iceland or Greenland to remove him from the plane, but in the end, despite his nasty, entitled and petulant behaviour (he even threw his dinner on the floor), we continued to JFK, where police were waiting to take him off the plane. An alcoholic denied access to alcohol is an ugly spectacle to behold.

3. We had Venezuelan sandwiches for dinner, followed by chocolate. Yes, the diet is on hold this week.
1. So happy Jan is here for a visit!

2. Have some fun plans for the weekend- making Marc take me out for a greasy dinner tomorrow night, seeing Jan, some church stuff, hopefully a lot of rest, too.

3. I would like to hire someone to follow me around for the rest of my pregnancy and be nice to other people on my behalf, because not only do I not want to do it anymore, I truly don't think I can.

1. Sick kitty is getting better (and more difficult to deal with). Considering a career move in to veterinary nursing. Not really but I'm getting pretty good at it except for last night when she escaped me with the full 40 ml syringe full of liquid meat attached to her feeding tube and proceeded to tear around the bedroom at high speed freaked out because the syringe kept hitting her as she ran. Fortunately she didn't damage herself, the tube or the giant syringe of smelly pureed cat food. I could just see the thing breaking and spraying the foul smelling stuff all over the bedroom. She has a checkup on Monday and we'll find out if her little liver is better and if she can go off the tube.

2. 1/2 marathon is coming up fast and I'm desperately trying to run my fat ass off. Done 20 miles so far this week, still slow as hell but it's fun.

3. Working from home tomorrow as they are moving us into our newly renovated work-space over weekend. Going to have to adapt to cube life after spending most of the last fifteen year in private offices. With windows. And river views. Don't hate me.

1. Ooh, I am expecting New Yorky photos.
It is the weekend as I am so not fucking driving back to go to an idiotic class I do better in when I don't show up or study.

2. TPS, stop being nice. It is too much energy. I've given it up when it's not natural with little fall out. People just get use to it and it is hysterical to watch.

3. Mortality counseling.

1. The move to Seattle took a greater toll on the setups of my guitars than I can fix myself. Nothing a pro luthier can't handle, fortunately, but the 12-string could cost as much as $300. While they are not of recording quality, they are still plenty good enough for practice, and THAT is coming along great.

2. Regardless, I must buy a bike in April, and that is going to put a huge dent in my budget.

3. I discovered a great little park on Puget Sound today. Lots of driftwood and seagulls. I foresee many hours to be spent there over the next couple years.

1. I start brand new weekend job on Saturday. It's not a good job but it's steady and better than sporadic work in my field.

2. Allergies are worse than usual since spring pollen is at peak level.

3. My kitty is unsure why I'm awake at 3 AM, but she's appreciating scritchies.

1. This is the rough time of year at work: endless endless slogging through words words words. Very tiring. Probably a few more weeks of it to go.

2. I have re-had cable tv now for about a month. I don't like it much. I feel obligated to watch things, which is dumb.

3. Looking for simple recipes for light eating -- I have fallen into a pattern of eating the same stuff over and over, and I need to inject some variety, but I'm not up to complicated cooking just now (see No. 1).

1. Am really quite nervous about the fact that I'm coming up on a super busy time but at least I have next week off of work. Not going anywhere, but I do have appointments booked for the entire time. And my homie is coming down to visit on Thursday!

2. Been really proud of myself lately for going out and DOING things. However, this leads to me not getting to bed at my normal bedtime, which has the potential to lead to crankypantsness. These are all good things though, which is nice. I just wish I had more time to sleep.

3. My bellydance class has scheduled a performance for mid-April. And I'm going to be in it. This is my very first sort of thing like that and I am crazy nervous. I just need to spend a bunch of time between hither and thither practicing the three choreos enough that they are just automatic, because that is the only way I'll be able to do anything except freeze.

1. Friends are in town from Sao Paulo for a visit. Newlyweds, I have known the husband for ages but am just meeting the wife. She reminds me of Sailor Moon.

2. Taking the dog to the vet today to get her prepped to go back to the States. Hopefully the vet will play nice and pre-date the form I need filled out so I don't have to go back on Monday.

3. Heading back to the States on April 1st for an undefined period of time, and we are pretty happy about it. Southern Brazil just ain't our bag.

Senyar have fun in NYC, so jealous of the NYC bunnies. TPS, don't sweat it! Pregnant women get a pass on these sorts of things.

1. My improv team has its final show tonight. =(

Sad, because we're pretty damn good. But too many people have too many commitments to keep it going outside of the program we were in. (Basically, the theater sets you up with a random group and a coach, and gives you a set run of shows; we'd have to try scheduling our own indie shows at a bunch of different venues now, and that's just a headache. Plus, organizing improvisers is like herding cats. Slippery, oily cats.)

But any NYC bunnies: message me for details on tonight's FINAL performance! I can get you in FREE! wheeeeee

2. I booked tickets this week to take a vacation in April. Haven't had a real vacation (i.e., not to visit (an S.O.'s) family) in ages. And I'm visiting somebunny special! =D

3. I'm feeling much better than I have in a number of years. Part of it is getting my mental health (and medications) regimented and under control. Part of it is things going better at work (no longer in danger of losing my job); financial stability goes a loooong way towards keeping me sane.

Part of it is that I finally have a (rewarding) creative outlet; my improv show this past week (the first "real" one, where people had to pay to get in) was a smash success. Packed house and huge ovation at 7pm on a Monday. Which is practically unheard of. It feels really nice to be invited to play in a show, and established folks at the theater are starting not just to know my name/who I am, but I'm getting a reputation for being funny (and somewhat unpredictable; one of the veterans remarked after last Friday's show that in all her years of improv, she'd never seen a scene like the one I'd just done). I've started working on my own show, which may involve creating a whole new improv form ('form' in this case being the loose structure the show happens around). Hoping to team up with a veteran and develop it into something weekly (or even monthly would be cool).

And part of it is also the somebunny special. =)

(Senyar is also somebunny special; I can't wait to see her this weekend! Not that I play favorites, but if I did, she'd be on the short-list. [NOT HEIGHT-IST])

1. Kitty cat has a vet appt this afternoon. I weighted her and she's lost 2+ lbs in the past 10 months (1+ in the past 2 months). Combined with her lackluster eating, I'm a bit concerned. So we'll see what the vet says.

2. My bff's son is turning 1 on Sunday so I'm driving down for the party. He's such a cute and easy baby. Which of course means her next one will be horrid :)

3. I'm currently sitting out on my deck while "working". It is wonderful. I suspect I won't be doing it much for the next couple months as pollen season is starting.

1. So, this isn't quite public knowledge yet (so Facebook friends, keep mum!) but I am at the end of my 11th week of pregnancy and freaking out today because my right arm feels weird and tingly. I am prone to minor hysteria over weird seemingly-neurological symptoms ever since my mom's ALS diagnosis, but the internet tells me that this is pretty normal. I also get numbness on the right side of my abdomen when I sleep on it lately. I'll ask the doc about it, but according to the internet, weird shit just happens when you're pregnant. Who knew? TPS, have you gotten any weird symptoms?

2. It is a beautiful day and I think I'm going to go work from home.

3. I am sad that I won't get to see Senyar and the NYers this weekend!

1. Work is progressing quite rapidly. Am using the pomodoro method.

2. My boyfriend's car is being repaired to some extent by a mechanically-inclined friend this weekend. We're simultaneously looking at used cars -- the first one we saw yesterday was not impressive. We're trying to find something in the $3000 range, but this car was definitely not worth that! Rust everywhere (though suspiciously not in the pictures we saw beforehand?). Sigh.

3. Watched a Russian comedy from Netflix last night, called the Diamond Arm. Quite funny, but I was so tired and sleepy I slept off 40 minutes before the end. Thankfully the boyfriend was not too offended, as he knows how quickly I fall asleep.

bluesapphires, I've been taking advantage of the crazy warm weather and sitting out on the porch swing while working too. Wonderful. And we have this super long extension cord so that I can keep my laptop plugged in as well.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. So exciting!

Weird symptoms? I have all sorts of 'em! Sometimes my hands or arms would tingle, I think because I would sleep on them weird. It would always go away, and I've gotten better about not sleeping on my arms or with my hands tightly clenched. You can always call your OB; I called my OB last week because Dr. Google convinced me I had a BLOOD CLOT IN MY LEG and I WAG GOING TO DIE but my OB said it was probably just a muscle strain from my middle-of-the-night charley horses (gotten those yet? I'll be fully asleep, move my leg, and YAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW!), and sure enough, the next day I felt fine.

Wow, you must be so happy you're fit to burst from keeping it hush hush, amro. I know you've been hoping for this for a long time. Cool beans! I love that all these awesome people are reproducing. There's hope for the future yet.

Dr. Google is EVIL and convinced me at 3 am this morning that I probably have MS (I have since realized that this is unlikely).

Dr. Google had me freaking out at least a half dozen times in the first weeks before we saw the OB.

And thanks for the congrats, my boyfriend and I could not be more happy about this.

YAY AMRO!!!!! I KNEW it

1. Senyar is here! In my apartment! (well, not right now, she's gallivanting around the city and I'm supposed to be working).

2. I went to a zumba class this morning. One of my friends (fellow daycare parent) convinced me to go with her. It was a lot of fun and I... wasn't so bad. I can always follow along OK, and I have decent rhythm, but anything that involves hips, shaking my ass, any sexydancemoves, I just can't do. It's not self-consciousness; I'm perfectly happy to look like a dork. I just literally can not do it.

3. Such a lovely day today. Wish I wasn't stuck inside. Boo.

Wow, lots of exciting and fun news today!

Senyar and NYC peeps, can't wait to hear more about your visit.

octothorpe, glad to hear that kitty's on the mend. bluesapphires, here's sending good thoughts and whuffles to your kitty; here's hoping it's just a blip, not anything serious.

Eideteker, I'm so glad (and not at all surprised) that your improv is going so well!

Congratulations, amro --- thanks for sharing your news!

Not much going on with me, but:

1. The unseasonably warm weather is kinda freaking me out. I should not be wearing tank tops in March in Maine. I might be the only person in town who wants winter back, just for a few weeks.

2. I have averaged about 4 hours of sleep nightly for most of the week, for no good reason. I expect to faceplant one of these days, just fall flat wherever I am and start snoring. Being unemployed is actually not too shabby when you factor in the potential for napping.

3. I bought myself some tulips, and the next day my sister brought me a cluster of daffodils and pussywillows. The enormous amount of pleasure I get from looking at these flowers is wildly out of proportion with the five bucks I spent on 'em; I must remember that next time I'm hesitating over the indulgence.

Yay, amro!!! I am SO happy for you. For everyone, in fact, who has got good things going on for them.

1. Gaspode is truly awesome, but she loses 5 points for not being a morning coffee drinker. I am a zombie until I'm properly caffeinated and that $1 cup from the corner deli was just enough to get me into town where I had an awesome cup of coffee at a place in Hell's Kitchen.

2. I've had a lovely day wandering around the city, and I had a lovely late breakfast/early lunch of freshly-sliced mango, a cup of wonderful organic yoghurt and an apple, sitting in the sunshine, feeling glad to be alive.

3. Tonight is Eideteker's improv show - w00t!! I'll be chanelling all my best Michael Scarn energy his way.

According to the vet, kitty cat has irritable bowel syndrome and once we get her on steroids she'll stop dropping weight. A much better diagnosis than I was expecting.

(((amro))) This is soooo exciting. I had a feeling that this kind of news was in the making (ha!). This may sound weird but it's been interesting "following" your story through your comments here in MetaChat. I am so very happy for you and your boyfriend!

Colour me green with jealousy for the NYC bunnies (in many ways!). Stupid geography!

Snorgles for octokitty and bluekitty!

oooooooooo babbbeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I had a lot of numbness in my legs at random times. As long as you can still move everything, I think you'll be ok.

1. Leg hurts but not as much as it did Monday, so I guess yay? But having my flexor, bursitis AND sciatica all act up at the same time is a major bummer.

2. Uneccessary work at work also makes me grumpy.

3. BUT fuckitsfriday, so I'm gonna have a guiness and look at cat pictures all night, and maybe watch some Kill Bill.

1. My parents are coming! I'm about to head home and if they're not at my place by the time I get there, it'll be very soon.

2. Had lunch with my two favorite co-workers, at my favorite restaurant. I rarely hang out with just the two of them any more. It was nice.

3. It's supposed to rain all weekend and I'm nearly out of firewood.

1. Yay, Senyar's here! Can't wait to give ya a big hug!

2. Decided to wait until next weekend to visit my mom. The extra sleep was most welcome. All-day coverage of the Miami tennis tournament an added bonus. Planning a nap and shower later. (Just call me Mrs. Excitement.) I do have Cowboys and Aliens from Netflix, should the mood strike me.

3. I'm broiling hot dogs for a late lunch and went to make myself what our local bar refers to as a "Big Girl Milkshake" (aka, a white russian), and blasted, there's no ice. That'll teach me to be too lazy to refill the ice trays during the week. How long does ice take anyway?
