Heroes & Villains: a deconstruction of one of the Beach Boys' most unusual songs.→[More:] I'd love to hear that disc of the song's various bits and pieces, but I wish you could get it without the whole gigantic vinyl+CD set.
Good Vibrations was recorded in segments, and when this was such a success, the Beach Boys apparently passed up the line of diminishing returns with this technique, with Heroes and Villains. At least that was my hit when it was released, and I do not feel any differently about it now. I like it OK, but not as much as GV.
I listened to the whole, ridiculous 5CD set. After the astounding Smile album proper, my mind was a bit melty, so the lone instrumental and vocal parts didn't make much of an impression.
Anyway, MySpace actually has the whole thing online, legally streaming online. Wish no more.
Of course, there are other, more nefarious methods of hearing the complete 5CD set, should you wish to travel down that path.
