Big deal. I did that kind of thing in my "radio sidekick" mode in 1976. Not as curt, I basically asked non-sequitur questions about "Sweet" Dick Whittington's latest stunt (which was itself usually highly non-sequitur - Give an LA suburb 'back' to the British? Invade Catalina Island? Drop AlkaSeltzer onto site where nerve gas was dumped?) and tried not to giggle when people tried to make polite answers out of nothing (and more people tried to back then). The first time I heard Howard Stern's 'Stuttering John' do a Man In The Street bit, I screamed HE'S STEALING MY ACT (yeah, I stammered a little), but then, Stern, Don Imus, everybody who has been called a 'shock jock' stole schtick from Dick, but he never made it as big because he made the weird/dirty/shocking/controversial stuff sound LESS so - the double-edged sword of "flying under the radar".
