I took 11,092 photos in 2011. I discarded about 7000 of them out-of-hand. about 300 of them made it to Flickr- starting with this one of my cat Fritz, last New Year's Day:

I'm a pretty lousy photographer generally. While I'm quite interested in photography, I just don't seem to have the time to do much with that interest. These three photos are among the very few that I have taken at I actually like and are definitely my favourites from 2011. They were taken at Rainbow Beach while the kids were climbing over the propellor of the Cherry Venture, a ship that wrecked on the coast nearby.

This was one of the highlights of 2011 for me - meeting one of the rescued Chilean miners.

I lost my darling Bailey last January. Here's the last photo taken of her, when I took Lucy with me to the vet to say goodbye to her.

I learned how to make nori rolls.

I really like the way the shadow frames the light in this picture.

I think this is the best photo I took last year.

Perdita and Django in the snow last January - there are three or four of these that I just love, I keep picking different ones as my favorite.

Skipping forward to June, here's a shot from Tybee Island.

This is not the best artistically but as a photojournalist piece, I think it works really well. From Bele Chere, Asheville's huge July street festival.

And also from Bele Chere, a more artsy image that I really love.

And James McMurtry.

This is the whole set of 2011. It's a LOT of pictures because I use this to make up the year's photo album, so as well as all the images I think are the best, every single image I've taken, no matter how blurry, of friends and family is in there.

Oh and add this one to the mix. It's only a week or two old and I usually wait a month or so before deciding if something is, in fact, good, but so far I think this makes the 2011 best of cut.

I love the symmetry of the little girl in the ballet photo standing with her feet in first position, with four girls on either side of her.

yeah, you can pick the kids with big sisters who do ballet...

There are a few photos I consider my best of the year, but I've taken almost everything down off of flickr. I need a good way of watermarking photos that's effective and as unobtrusive as possible.

This is one of the best prints I've made this past year. The photo of the print doesn't really do it justice.

(I hope I'm doing this right...)

I'm an evil evil dog mom because I think these are the best pet pics I've taken all year.

I liked this one as it looks like I'm living in a snowglobe (and yes my license plate says BOOK NRD)

I went to the zoo with my best friend et al. and took two great pictures (gangster meerkat says "Sup, dude?" and splits!)

And because I didn't go anywhere this year, so I will also share my favorite picture from my trip to Oahu, HI in 2010.
