I have to bake cookies for a cookie exchange party on Sunday, but what kind? Chocolate chip and sugar cookies are verboten![More:]I'm going to a cookie exchange party on Sunday; I went to the same event last year and it was great! However, this year we are forbidden to make chocolate chip or sugar cookies, which are the only cookies I ever make (boring, I know, but I'm really good at them!)

So, mechazens, what kind of cookies should I bake? I have two reqirements: my beloved husband is allergic to tree nuts (peanuts are OK), I'd prefer recipes without nuts. Also, I have a tight schedule between now and the party, so if I can't get the ingredients at a good-size Kroger, it ain't happening. No daffodil-stamen-macaroons, please!
These Lemon Ginger Pinwheel cookies are delicious and look really fancy without being much work; I've made them twice now and they were well received both times.

I love oatmeal and raisin cookies... there's a chain here in the UK called Ben's Cookies that makes them, and they are wonderful. Our local branch has closed, though :(

I used to make these with white chocolate chips. Peppermint and butterscotch chips would be good too.

I shouldn't have peeked into this thread. I would knock somebody down for a cookie right now.

I second oatmeal cookies as those are my stand by if I don't do sugar or chocolate chip.

You could make those peanut butter cookies that have a hershey's kiss stuck in the middle. Like these.

My opinion changes depending on if you have a chance to serve them warm, how strictly they define cookie, and how many chocoholics are in the vicinity.

Do you have a waffle iron? Boot Tracks are easy to make, look fun and are yummy.

What you need are some orange creamsicle cookies.

Whoa, boot tracks look fantastic, rhapsodie!

If you end up making oatmeal cookies, here's a thought: you can swap out raisins for dried cherries or cranberries and add a bit of lemon zest and nutmeg. I always do that (and often add chunks of chocolate, but that's AGAINST THE RULES).

OMG I need to bake cookies tonight after this thread. But there's leftover birthday cake and ice cream.

Another vote for oatmeal raisin. So yummy!

I make a variant of ginger snaps called Honey Curry Snaps that are stupid-simple and are somewhat interesting in flavor. They're also refrigerator cookies, so you can make the dough whenever and then bake a few at a time.
