Who is Adele?

My Aunt Adele was always nice to me. We never saw her because she lived in NC, but she'd always send cards for our birthdays (my brother & I) and Christmas. Usually with a $5 or $10 bill inside. =)

(Actually, she was my mother's Aunt; my grandmother's big sister. They all had really German names, very fun to say with a Teutonic accent.)

As someone with no aunt,and who has to ask "who?" and who usually hates stuff, I have to say after watching this video, yes, she's cool.

If you can't tell if Adele is cool from that video, look up "Someone Like You" on youtube (I can't link it). It was nominated for Solo Performance of the year, but should have been nominated for song of the year as well...Cool isn't even the word. I don't put a lot of songs on my Ipod, but that one made the cut the first time I heard it.

Adele has lost her voice. Here's hoping it's temporary.

I didn't know it but I had heard Adele (Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You) without knowing who was singing. She's definitely cool.

I don't know if she's cool but she's popular.

Someone Like You.

I think Adele is great. Honest writer, great singer, great presence, too. I first came across her off of a post on the blue about NPR tiny desk concerts, someone in the thread said "Oh man, I gotta see Adele sing on that NPR show!" which prompted me to check it out and now I'm sold on her.

It's totally annoying that there is so much cruelty aimed at her because she doesn't weigh fourteen pounds except for another 74 pounds of silicone breasts. She's *not* out there as some vacuous beauty queen, she's an artist, and a great one. And goddamnit, she's one of the darlingest, most kissable women that there is, it's not like she's some sweaty, cornfed, walmart gal from Iowa — Adele is a babe.

On top of all that, she's got this real big heart, and it's been broken, too, she's been fool enough to let people get close, to open herself to love. And she got stung, as you mostly will if/when you open to love, and damned if she doesn't have the guts to write and sing about it for us. I just think she rocks, is all.

So, um, yeah, Adele is awfully cool in my books…
