27 November 2011

Looked at my window and saw . . . [More:]

Two HUGE tandem-rotor military-style helicopters flying east. This is in Queens, NY.

Anyone know what might be going on? Something political? An accident? An emergency?

that should read "looked out"

National Guard training? That normally takes place on a weekend.

I often see Chinooks flying along the Thames near the office. I always wonder what they're doing. They're always in pairs too.

I had another thought - maybe military personnel to provide input to the police re OWS?

National Guard? Maybe. But given the events of the last few weeks, it's a bit hard to put a neutral spin on something like this, you know?

OWS was my first thing I thought of but most of the protest activity has happened to the west of me across the river. I think there have been some anti-foreclosure actions at the Jamaica courthouse. But otherwise, not a whole lot. Queens has been pretty quiet. I see the Establishment's talking heads babbling on the TV down at the Stop Inn diner. And then behind me there's a guy reading Crisis Economics by Nouriel Roubini over his breakfast. But that's all I've seen here.

They could just be construction helicopters. That's how replacement HVAC components get on the roofs of tall buildings.

Almost certainly a training exercise. We get F1-11s and now FA-18s flying over our place in formation quite regularly because we are under the flight path they use to go from their Amberley base to the area over the ocean the Air Force uses for low-altitute training flights.

A few weeks ago, they flew 20 FA-18s on a low-altitude (2,00 feet) pass through the city, following the path of the Brisbane River, but I missed it because I was on the wrong side of the building :-(

Well I just looked out my window and saw a flock of wild turkeys running down the street! Honest! They are in the hills around here but I have never seen them down here in the flats.

They've got vengeance on their minds.
