I rewatched Blue Velvet a couple of weeks ago with a friend, and because we've both seen it many times, we were about to keep up a pretty steady patter of chit-chat and snark during most of the film...
... but not when Frank Booth was on-screen. Then we fell into an uneasy hush.
He really is one of the most electrifying, horrific, over-the-top screen villains of all time. I'm an enthusiast Lynch fan, but I'm not sure I want to see what didn't make the cut.
I like the idea of a separate deleted scenes reel as compiled by Lynch versus splicing it back into the original film. Few films really benefit mainly because splicing requires remixing the sound, and the results are rarely satisfying. Blade Runner is one of the few that did benefit.
