HOLY LINOLEUM! 17 miles on a bike? That must take almost-or-over an hour. And is that mileage based on the obviously circuitous route you use? Would it be much shorter in a car on a freeway? (I know, much more expensive, less green and no exercise, but quicker and maybe a direct route, or is Ft. Worth just laid out all wrong?)

I should note (for the millionth time) that I'm on the frontage road for Hwy 101 between San Louis Obispo and Pismo Beach and a week-and-a-half ago a half-marathon run with 1,700 runners passed by. My road is also THE between-towns bike route (SLO county is better than most at making room for bike lanes) and I see some bike commuters pass by daily.

Wow! That's some ride. I'd be tired driving that far.

Impressive!

Couldn't watch the whole thing, though. The wiggliness made me nauseated.

Actually, it's about the same on a car versus a bike. The bike route isn't as out of the way as it looks. In a car I take a freeway that loops a bit out of the way. I can do a slightly shorter distance on the bike but due to construction in that area I take the bike trail instead.

I used to ride most of the time when I had a 7 mile commute. It's more of a once-in-a-while thing now that it's 17 miles.

Sorry about the wiggliness, deborah. I was holding a cheap cell phone in my hand for all of that.

You can see the "hump" in the route. I used to be able to follow closer to the freeways which was a more direct route, but they are all chewed up right now in the construction.

(And even before the construction, the longer route was far less stressful because it is lower traffic.)

I'm jealous because your commute is flat (mine is very not flat.) OTOH, we have mountains! I have ridden to my workplace to see how it would be as a commute, and it is frankly an ass-kicking that I reserve for weekends.

No worries about the wiggliness, that's my problem, not yours. And now that you've said it was a hand held cell phone, I'm surprised at how un-wiggly it was!

There is some elevation change. The river in the middle is about 800 feet lower than either end (so... uphill, both ways!)

Ack... no, the ends are a little over 800 feet of elevation, the river in the middle is 560, so something like 250 feet lower than the ends.
