How can we top Charles Nelson Reilly and Brett Somers? Yes, it's... Halloween Costume-Filter![More:]So the party we usually go to has of late been a decade-themed party. This year is the '80s. As much as I would desperately love to go as one of the Golden Girls, I'm sure someone else will do it (and neither of us are exactly built for anyone but Dorothy).

SO! Any suggestions for a paired costume?
Difficulty: we're both big all around. I have contacts this year, though, so we don't have to limit ourselves to costumes that accommodate glasses.
Also, he would prefer something that he doesn't have to think about (i.e. I just make it and put it on him, which is fine by me).

Assets: wicked creativity and craft skills; willingness to look ridiculous; also possibly a third member of the group (who looks kind of like a greaser and/or serial killer).
Ralph Macchio and Pat Sorita with matching rising-sun headbands.

"Willingness to look ridiculous" + The '80s = SO many possibilities.

'80s Music Tribute: Cyndi Lauper + A Flock of Seagulls (and the greaser guy could do Billy Idol)

or Dexy's Midnight Runners

(overalls are easy)

or in the other direction, Cliff & Claire Huxtable (but I would advise STRONGLY against much skin darkening, but your guy would ROCK a Cosby sweater).

For large size, Norm from Cheers with Rebecca/Kirstie Alley (if I were going as Norm, I'd bring my own barstool). Or you could push the envelope and be Carla.

Or 80's Mystery TV: he can be Magnum, you can be Jessica Fletcher of Murder She Wrote (but wouldn't you RATHER be Cyndi Lauper?)

You can't. In fact, next time I need a pair or group costume, I am stealing it. Well done.

Umm. . .The Facts of Life? Natalie and Jo or Natalie and Blair or Blair and Jo or Charlotte Rae and Blair? That might not have gone on into the eighties, though.

Something Love Boat? Captain Stubing and Julie?
Oh! Wesley and Buttercup?
Or, Bill and Ted might be amusing.
Kate and Fred from B-52s?
Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
:D

Facts of Life is totally 80's. I'd suggest Blair, Jo, and Natalie, if you have a third, or if the guys won't go for that, , there are Mr. Clooney and Ms. Rae. (OK, one guy has to go for that cross experience, but it's Halloween)! Uniforms are not impossible, you can make paper blazer crests, etc.

I don't think you CAN top it. However, Cyndi Lauper + Capt. Lou Albano would be AWESOME!

Oh MAN. Cyndi and Cap'n Lou would be awesome. Kenny and Dolly would also be great, since I am, how you say, frontally blessed.

Unfortunately, J. worries that he can't grow a beard long enough to hold rubber bands...

Keep 'em coming!

Those costumes are brilliant.
I think you'd make a great Mario and Peach.

If you want to go really (and I mean *really*) random, how about going as Vicki & Jamie from "Small Wonder"?

Paul Lynde and Kitty Carlisle if you want to keep the kitschy game show celebrity theme.

CNR and BS were pushing it last year for the recognition factor. The attendees are mostly late-20s grad student hipsters.

I would LOVE to do Small Wonder. However, I worry that Jamie (for that is his actual name) might not look so recognizable. He does wear plaid an awful lot. Maybe we could do something different for him.

My dream costume, as always, is Ursula the Sea Witch. I just don't look forward to a) making those tentacles and b) cleaning off all that purple paint.

How could we do the Gatekeeper and the Keymaster?
