Hiccup cures now please help help
Massage your earlobe. Worked for me for a couple of years. Doesn't any more.

Also, drink water swallowing with your mouth open (I think this still works for me. Can't test just now).

Have someone hold your ears shut (or if you have in-ear headphones that seal up your ears, they do the trick -- it's a matter of really closing the ear canal off from the outside air) and slowly drink a glass of water.

Take a deep breath and force down your diaphragm.

Hugh has it; the ears have worked. Thanks you have saved me. Worst case in years but so far so good. Eeep. It is nice to not be hiccuping, much thanks and stuff.

I was gonna say drink water upside-down. That works at my house.
But if Hugh has it, I am not going to argue.
I HATE hiccups.

When my kids have them, I recommend the yoga cure (abdominal control). Just so they can save it from themselves.

Glad to hear you fixed it! I use a spoonful of sugar. Use your tongue to rub it against the roof of your mouth for as long as possible.

Man, I just hold my breath. It's been ages since I couldn't just shut hiccups off. I can't imagine the torture! =(

next time just try holding your breath for as long as you can. works every time

mgl, so glad it worked!

works every time

NO IT DOES NOT OH THE TORMENT.

Ahem. I mean, it works sometimes, and for some people it does work every time, which is great!

But some people get horrible bouts of hiccups that are all but impossible to shut down voluntarily. Last time, I was awakened by hiccups and continued to hiccup (sometimes rather painfully) for more than THREE HOURS. It sounds funny, but it ain't.

Next time, I'll try that ear business.

The first couple minutes of hiccups can be funny, but when it goes on and on and on... Shoot me.

Definitely going to try the Hugh Janus Solution next time.

If you're not part of the Hugh Janus Solution, you're part of the Hugh Janus Precipitate.

A late remedy for future use.

The Bartender's Hiccup remedy

1/4 of a lemon. Place in a pony glass. Coat liberally with granulated sugar. The splash on Angostura Bitters, also liberally, but don't wash off the sugar.

Bite down on the lemon and suck on it. Suck all of the juice out.

It works every time. I think the combination of sweet/sour/bitter sort of shocks the system or somesuch. But I've never seen it fail. And I tended bar for many years.

If all else fails, try decapitation.

But only if all else fails, k?
