Phosphorescent's "Mermaid Parade" - this record has been growing on me a lot, and I thought I'd share a song.[More:] I'd noticed this (vaguely alt.country) guy a few years back when he put out a record that was ONLY Willie Nelson songs...didn't love 'em all at first, but really loved some songs. Then, over time the rest grew on me too.

Then, when he put out this record, I loved the title (Here's to Taking it Easy) and meant to listen more. I did, and man, his voice is really growing on me.

Recently, while listening, I really noticed the lyrics to this song, and I think they're pretty great. A lovely, sad story of failed love. These two stanzas are just great:

Now our hearts were on fire only two weeks ago
And our bodies were like live wires down on the beach in Mexico
But I came back to this city and you stayed home in LA
And then our two years of marriage
In two short weeks somehow just slipped away

And I know all about your new man
Your new older, old man and I heard that he’s married
Ah you be careful Amanda
And yeah I found a new friend too
And yeah she’s pretty and small
But god damn it Amanda, oh god damn it all

Whattaya think?
Ah well. I like it. Heh.

I kind of liked Phosphorescent's first album, but nothing since then has really grabbed me. I'm pretty sure I saw Matthew Houck at the Italian restaurant around the corner from my house earlier this year, though, which was interesting.

Nice! Never heard of them before but I liked this song a lot.

Which was the first album, BoPo? I only really started with "to Willie".

I can't imagine someone being a Willie Nelson fan, and NOT liking at least some of To Willie, I gotta say.

I was talking about Aw Come Aw Wry, which I now see Wikipedia says was his second album, not his first.

I'll see if I can get my hands on that one. He's one artist that I seem to like where he's going more than where he's been, unlike say, Frank Turner, whom I seem to prefer his older stuff to his newer. Or AA Bondy - same deal.
