Purchases. What've you bought today?
I bought a luna bar for breakfast bc child ate all our bread, and some sliced up mango because yum. Later on I will buy dinner because I haven't cooked on a Friday night for like 20 years.

Nuffim. Bought a lot of stuff in the past week, though; a phone, some phone accessories, a fanny pack for the phone. I feel like I've bought enough for now. You?

I've had a very spendy day, even for a day off. I don't like that a bit. Here's what I've bought today:

Fountain drink and two pack of Camel Lights from Local Convenience store
Fountain drink and a pack of (spearmint) gum at rest-stop just outside of Stillwater
Organic Chemistry textbook ($175 used - such a goddamn racket. Hoping I can use it for II as well)
Lunch at Taco Bueno, which is regional fairly decent comida rapida
35-lb. bag of dog food (Canidae, FWIW. I only feed her two cups a day, but we were running low)
Gas to top off the tank
Beer (a big bottle of Two Jokers Double-Wit from Boulevard (Kansas City) and a six-pack of Brewport's Summer Squeeze (Portland, OR) both of which are fantastic.
Digital copy of Shabazz Palace's Black Up (strongly recc'd by a buddy of mine. Currently listening. Like it a bit, but I get the feeling it'll take multiple listens to wrap my head around.)

Fuck. I think I have things set up to where I can get through tomorrow without spending a single penny though. Here's hoping.

(On preview: y'all are quick!)

omg textbook, ufez.

I bought big bag of cat food and new kitty tunnel (old one is so squashed that it won't stand up.) One cat inspected the tunnel, the other one hid.

Big steel wire shelving unit for kiln shed. I had a smaller one in there but decided I needed it in the house. Haven't put toghether the shelves yet.

I need more half+half, but will wait for tomorrow.

Diet Coke with fresh lime. If I had all the cash I've given Sonic every Texas summer my Roth IRA would look amazing. As it is, I've downed a thousand cold drinks with red straws and loved every one.

Burrito. Weighed about four pounds and I only ate a third of it (maybe less), so I feel like it was a steal at $3.25. Hello, dinner!

omg textbook, ufez.

Srsly. And I still have whatever I need for my Animal Genetics class to buy (long story. Construction on campus, temp. bookstore set-up. A lot of stuff sitting wrapped up on pallets).

I haven't yet purchased something today (may pay some bills and buy some beers later), but did buy a waterproof digital camera* yesterday and it arrived today. I cannot wait to try it!

* For those of you that see me on Twitter or FB, can you tell that I'm super excited about this purchase!?
posted by youngergirl44 15 July | 18:11
Not one thing.

Oh wait! I lied. I rented a parking space for $8.25.

Nothing at all today. Phew! Yesterday I did the weekly grocery shopping and the day before that the fancy pet food store, so I'm broke now.

I bought lunch in the cafeteria at work b/c I was too busy to heat up the lunch I brought, but it cost less then Specklet's parking space.

I ♥ all of you all that didn't spend anything today. That's kind of my weird (cynical, dark-hearted, and, yeah, kind of cheapskatey) goal for, ideally, more days than not.

A taco. Some wine.

I was sleepy at work and needed the caffeine hit, so I bought a soda.

more days than not

In my case, how often I spend anything depends on how often I buy fresh food, which on my diet is quite often. I have gone months now without any salty-crunchy snacks including salted nuts, but I have probably replaced them carb-for-carb/protein-for-protein with homemade smoothies chock full of fresh and frozen fruits, yogurt and milk.

Zip, zero, zilch. I rarely buy anything, that's the mister's job.

A new tube for my bicycle, and a bike computer for my wife's. I don't really care how much I ride or how fast I go, but she's always asking.

Some clarinet supplies (reeds, a stand, a new rag, cork grease, a reed case) and a new printer to use with my new iPad2 via AirPrint (drove myself a bit nuts reading reviews on Amazon before I made my selection).

Just doing my part for the economy.

I bought groceries: Whole milk for the sprog, roast beef for sandwiches for the hub, Starburst candy for me, other grocery stuff.

We went out for dinner and hub paid the check but then I paid the sitter when we got home. (I love her so much and she's going off to college in about a month even though I keep trying to persuade her to stay here and let us adopt her despite her very nice family. Some people are so selfish.)

Nothing. I meant to buy chicken (for shredded chicken to serve with peanut noodles this weekend) but didn't make it to the store. Oops.

I just got home from all day with my visiting family and was seriously considering going out to buy a Nutty Buddy, but I don't feel like putting on shoes again walk to the store.

Today, I went to the pet store and bought some treats and toys for the pup. Since we are moving soon, I want to make sure that I can provision a sufficient amount of Crap for the dog ahead of time, so we are not left wanting in our new town (my dog has lots of allergies, so she can only have certain treats, and I am not sure yet that I can get them in our new hometown, hence, the trip to the store).
I also bought a Dominos pizza for my little friend (I hate that crap, but when you are seven, ordering a pizza online is super cool), as well as some Carolina bbq for little friend's big sister.

We also accidentally spent USD 1700 on clothes, but it was because our credit card number had been stolen :(

Thanks to the credit card gods, we got the charge reversed.

Uh oh, you asked this on a sensitive day.

After work I headed down to Queen St. to the fabric/yarn district to do some shopping.

First item needed was buttons for the sweater I am knitting. Having checked some other stores prior to today I went into a store that sells nothing but buttons. And I looked and looked. Everything was the wrong shade of green or too big or the wrong style or just not appealing. After ten to fifteen minutes looking, I asked the salesman if he knew of any stock he had that would do. He immediately grabbed a box from the rack behind him, shook a couple of buttons out of it onto the sweater and said, "There." They were perfect, and I bought half a dozen of them. I was impressed no end by the service and I said so.

Then on to Romni Wools, where they were having a 20% off sale as they do every July. Only a lunatic shops in Romni Wools in July because it is the most brutally hot place I can think of. They don't have air conditioning and the place is jam-packed with wool. It's like walking around in a slightly claustrophobic maze of sweaters. This particular lunatic ended up browsing until close though and I bought some more yarn for the sweater I am working on (spring green mohair-silk blend) as well as a dark brown cashmere-merino yarn for a Guernsey cardigan I am going to make next. These are luxury yarns so even at 20% off this was an investment.

And I may just wrap up the day by going over to Etsy and making a couple of purchases — but that'll be it for my discretionary spending for the rest of the month.

Oooh, good buttons are a great buy. I don't really sew much these days, but I often replace the standard buttons on a store-bought article with nicer buttons.

A trip to Target for:

cat litter
dishwasher detergent
oxi-clean
a shit-ton of hand sanitizer
lysol spray disinfectant
giant jug of hand soap to refill our pump thingies
new toothbrushes
kid toothpaste
backpack for the kid
wipes for the babe
granola bars
schleich horse figurine (bribe for the kid)

You're so right, Elsa. The right buttons upgrade an item so much — and the wrong ones can just about ruin it. I was drooling over some antique art nouveau earrings on Etsy just this morning, though in the end I chose not even to favourite them.

Well, I've just decided to go to Burning Man, so over the next few weeks my purchase list will look very, very silly. Today was a 16-hour workday, though, so my purchases consisted of a quick stop at Trader Joe's at 10AM and nothing for the rest of the day. However, I'm now on the couch with a browserful of crazy stuff to buy, so who knows what my answer will look like in two hours?

Purchased Torchlight on Steam. It's pretty good for a mindless Diablo clone. Actually a bunch of the people that coded Diablo 1 and 2 made it. For $15 it was well worth it. Very pretty game. No storyline to really speak of. Each level of the dungeon is unique, created on the fly, so to speak. So you can play for a long time. It's your basic kill the monsters. Kill the boss. Take the stuff. Upgrade and move on game.

Mindless fun when you need that thing. And I do.
