Neat-o Fountain I just can't wrap my brain around how they do this, it is just SO cool.
To clarify the bubblejet printer analogy. Or inkjet for that matter. Consider that it's not water, but ink. Below it is a sheet of paper traveling a along at a a speed equal to each drop of water. Since each drop of water looks in two dimensions like a dolphin or a kanji symbol, they drop upon the paper one after the other. And so they drop upon the paper one after the other creating the same picture.
Actually this works better if you think of them as an old dot matrix printer. Since this is simply a group of dots dropped in a single line. Newer printers use a matrix of dots that are a plane figure instead of a line. And of course they use several colors.
There was a fountain like this at the Coca Cola pavilion during the 96 Olympics here in Atlanta... looked very cool at night with the colored lights making the designs glow.
