The universe hates me. [More:] I have never been in the same city as Kronos Quartet until today. The tickets are a very affordable $25.

BUT

They are playing an outdoor amphitheatre at 7:30 pm, and this is the middle of July in Fresno. The midday heat only begins to break at 7:30 and we will be over 100 again. I can barely walk 50 yards when it is like this.

harrumph

That is all.
Imagine playing an instrument dressed in whatever in that kind of heat.

I know some of the critters over at solar weather. See what I can do....

I imagine the stage has a cooling system built into it for such performances. Open-air HVAC technology is a couple decades old, and the various solutions are fairly simple to implement. The cost would be easily absorbed by such a venue.

If you have been to an outdoor pool at a large Vegas resort in the last few years, you probably experienced open-air HVAC.

... and as soon as I click 'Post' I remember:

The outdoor penguin pool that the Flamingo hosted until a few years ago is an excellent example of open-air HVAC.

Bummer, Ardiril... I was considering a walk this afternoon myself, but it's about 90 degrees here with an air quality alert, so I think I'll stay put, in the nice air conditioning.

In high school, our band marched in the Disney World parade in Orlando in 95+ degree heat, in white turtlenecks (I wore a dickie) and red blazers. My friend Beth and I loaded up on fries with lots of salt and a big drink before and managed, but man was it hot. I really felt sorry for the tubas.

I marched with a bass drum or tuba in high school. Not the sharpest crayon in the pack.

I guess that I won't complain about it being 84 degrees here.

... and I guess this is the wrong place to complain that it was 6c here this morning.
